Hollington Park Clamping ,Woollen Hill, nr Newbury
If you love the idea of getting back to basics, but can’t quite bring yourself to sleep on a deflating air mattress, pitch up at Hollington Park Glamping near Newbury.
This week the What’s on has a distinctly maternal feel to it. It’s Mothering Sunday on 26 March, and whilst there are lots of other fun activities to be getting on with around the county, this Muddy thinks it’s time to put Mum first.
A Tribute to George Michael, Kettering Park Hotel, Friday 24 March
His larger than life persona, and sheer talent was been the soundtrack to our lives – ever since we woke up in the eighties and “went went”, This “tribute to George Michael” is well timed for those of us who want to be reminded of just how good he was.
I’m a vintage chick, I admit it. Give me those 50’s lipsticks, and a retro seat on which to park my Muddy posterior, charge me a vintage champagne in antique crystal glasses and you’ll have friend for life. There’s lots going on in the county this week, but theres also a definite nod to the good old glamourous days.

Stanwick Lakes – fresh air, brilliant scenery and home to numerous species of wildlife.
It’s up to us Northamptonshire types to make up our minds this week. Do we go out, do we stay in? If Storm Doris didn’t put you off there are plenty of outdoor pursuits to keep you and yours fit and healthy (wrap up warm though). On the other hand, our theatres are putting on rather a good show, what. Decisions, decisions…
Russell Kane: Right Man, Wrong Age, Castle Theatre, 8pm, Thursday 2 March
It’s all about growing up and growing down.
It’s almost March, and I don’t know about you, but I’m still paying off the excesses of last Chrimbo (I really don’t remember ordering proper Champagne in the restaurant that time, doh). In a bid to counteract me sitting at home and feeling sorry for myself, Muddy contributor Lucy Banwell has curated the best free days out in Northants. No excuse Mudsters, wellies on!
A long walk or cycle around this ancient woodland near Corby is good for the soul, the waistline and the wallet!
Didn’t quite make it to skiing this half term? Nope, me neither! But who cares, for we have delights aplenty in Blighty and not just out on our doorstep. Here are some great options if you fancy a day trip out.
Half term week for schools in Warwickshire is 20 – 24 Feb fact fans, so this week is a grand tim for Bucks/Oxon families to head up to Warwick Castle during its relatively quieter week.
Has there ever been a better combination than romance and bored children? This week’s What’s On deals with the paradox of Valentines Day and half term hitting us like a Perfect Storm. Put another way, perfect Mums and Dads, should get, nay DESERVE, a bit of fun time after days of distracting the little ‘uns. Allow us to show you how…
The Soul Weekender, Stanwick Hotel, 10-12th February
Hands up who know’s the roots of Northern Soul?
It seems that January may have upped and gone already Mudsters. That leaves us with the prospect of a jam (marmalade) packed February with lots and lots to keep us up and at ’em, starting with a good slug of caffeine…

Wakey Wakey!! It’s 2017 and we’re already picking up the pace here in Muddy Northants. This week there are some great events in the offing and lots of brilliant places to visit in our county. It’s a big year for Muddy Stilettos too as we’ll be one year old in February and we’ve just been nominated for Best UK Blog – Arts and Culture. ABBA Tribute Night, Westone Manor, 9.30pm, 7 January
Put on your dancing shoes and join the fun with the brilliant tribute ensemble, ABBA Angels.
Bosworth Independent College is an international day and boarding school for children aged 14 -19 years, based in Northampton on the road heading from town to Brixworth/Market Harborough (A508). Who knew? Well I didn’t, and I’ve driven past there a few times and had no idea it was there (*message to self, stop drive-dreaming)! The College is proud of its cosmopolitan community of British students working alongside both European and International students, and I have to say, I met a fair few of them on my visit, all looking like they were…well like they were having fun, now you mention it.
