This year Muddy Stilettos Northants is teaming up with Althorp Food and Drink Festival, May 6 & 7 to find out who is the people’s favourite exhibitor at the weekend event. From sausages to sauces, wine to water buffalo, if you’re at the event, pick out your winner – with over 40 to choose from.Read more
Those of you Mudsters who were here at the genesis of Muddy in February last year will recall that Adam Church, Head Chef and part owner of the Bread and Pullet, was one of the first of the Northants establishment to open its doors to Muddy Stilettos and we gave the food and the ambience a glowing review. Well, we’re both a year older, we’re still seeing each other but are we still in love?Read more
This week the What’s on has a distinctly maternal feel to it. It’s Mothering Sunday on 26 March, and whilst there are lots of other fun activities to be getting on with around the county, this Muddy thinks it’s time to put Mum first.
A Tribute to George Michael, Kettering Park Hotel, Friday 24 March
His larger than life persona, and sheer talent was been the soundtrack to our lives – ever since we woke up in the eighties and “went went”, This “tribute to George Michael” is well timed for those of us who want to be reminded of just how good he was.Read more
Ahhhhhhhh, how I perceive myself having a cocktail may not necessarily translate to how I actually look having one; but nevertheless, I like cocktails, and so I shall endeavour to carry on drinking them, whether I can emulate Betty Draper or not.
There are some great cocktail bars in Northants (here’s a blog post we did last year with some Muddy faves), but they’re often a destination venue on a night out, rather than just a quick drink after work, or somewhere you can enjoy a cocktail while the kids have their tea.Read more
Staycation. Staycation Staycation. It’s an opportunity to take some time out and explore your own county, even if you only have a spare evening. And it still surprises me that after a twenty minute car journey from Northampton (a mere skip across the M1 to the west of the county), you can have yourself a proper local adventure. Door to door and back in 24 hours, we’ve met some inspiringly talented people and bone fide entrepreneurs.Read more
Mothering Sunday – A day out for Mums, Sons, Daughters and anyone inbetween…
They come in all shapes and sizes, we love them, and they can drive us mad but on this day more than any other we celebrate them all. There are a host of lovely lunches already planned for our Northants Mums, but I ask you, is there a more idyllic setting for a celebration of maternal appreciation than the rolling Northamptonshire countryside and a trip up or down the Welford road?Read more
Hap-pie days are here again for the Muddy Clan. Not content with our Thursday night pie extravaganza via Sauls of Spratton, we’ve just returned from a sumptuous Friday pie day at the Red Lion in Cranford with full stomachs, big smiles and ready for a super snooze (the pie thing really appeals much more to him than it does to me, and he really was very enthusiastic about me covering it this week, so brownie points pour moi ; )
Northamptonshire Mudster’s voted this establishment as one of your favourite cosy Northamptonshire Pubs in a Muddy Pub feature earlier in the year, so what finer place to celebrate British Pie week?Read more
I used to think everyone loved indian food. But as my number of friendship groups has grown, there’s always one person who ‘doesn’t fancy a curry.’ That person is not me. Ask Mr Muddy. Given the choice of the offerings in our house for a takeaway, namely – Indian, Chinese, Chippy, Turkish or Caribbean – (I’d like to have Thai thrown in the mix, but for some reason, there isn’t one in close enough for just a last minute supper choice), I’ll inevitably plump for Indian.Read more
Muddy is lucky. Veeeeeery lucky. In our trips out to visit the finest hostelries and eat from the tastiest menus (all in the name of sharing the best stories with you good Mudsters), it would have been easy to overlook those establishments that had seemingly just been around for years.
Such is the vibrancy, and talent in Northamptonshire, and so strong is the creative appetite that you could be forgiven for thinking that that Sophia’s Restaurant – a Mediterranean gem, over twenty years in the making, is so familiar to have always been there.Read more
Sometimes, the stress of a holiday or the 10 hours stuck in traffic on the way to Cornwall, really do negate any benefits of a trip away; that’s why I’m the new champion of a cheeky break on your own doorstep (or near as damn it)! And according to Marriott’s Great British Break Report, two fifths of Brits chose to take a break in their own county in 2016 and that number is set to rise, with three in ten of all those questioned admitting they are more likely to holiday in their own backyard now than they were in the past.Read more
