14 beautiful beach cottages to rent this summer (or before if you can’t wait)

23 Feb 2017

One of the big benefits of Muddy tottering its way into so many counties (er, 17 since you asked!) is that we have a raft of on-the-ground experts, squirrelling out the coolest, most useful stuff for the rest of us to plunder. Case in point – beach cottages. Thought about renting one this summer? Yeah me too. So allow me to lay before you a sandy smorgasbord from the Muddy regional editors – 14 beautiful beach properties for the bucket and spade brigade.

16 great things to do in Northants!

21 Feb 2017

Pinch punch first of the month. This week’s What’s On has us running from one side of the county to the other like a March Hare.  We’ve got gorgeous gardens, beautiful spring bouquets and should it get a bit nippy out there we’ve got plenty of Northants arts and culture to keep us company. We’ve even got a Northants to London day planned. Goodbye February – Spring has almost sprung. Yippee.

Muddy Eats: Sophia’s – a sprinkle of The Med in the heart of Northampton

21 Feb 2017

Muddy is lucky. Veeeeeery lucky. In our trips out to visit the finest hostelries and eat from the tastiest menus (all in the name of sharing the best stories with you good Mudsters), it would have been easy to overlook those establishments that had seemingly just been around for years.

Such is the vibrancy, and talent in Northamptonshire, and so strong is the creative appetite that you could be forgiven for thinking that that Sophia’s Restaurant – a Mediterranean gem, over twenty years in the making, is so familiar to have always been there.

Muddy does a Bridget ‘mini-break’ – Forest of Arden Hotel

15 Feb 2017

Sometimes, the stress of a holiday or the 10 hours stuck in traffic on the way to Cornwall, really do negate any benefits of a trip away; that’s why I’m the new champion of a cheeky break on your own doorstep (or near as damn it)! And according to Marriott’s Great British Break Report, two fifths of Brits chose to take a break in their own county in 2016 and that number is set to rise, with three in ten of all those questioned admitting they are more likely to holiday in their own backyard now than they were in the past.

Rachel Johnston – My favourite places & things to do in Northants

13 Feb 2017

I had a slight addiction to those house-hunting TV programmes in the ’90s, so can you imagine doing it as a real job?! Well Rachel does, lucky lady, because she’s a home-finder at Stacks Property Search. She goes out and about for clients in Northants and Bucks, so she’s been around our fair Shire quiiiiiite a lot! Here are her favourite places and things to do in and around Northamptonshire…

Remarkably Northamptonshire it is still a little known county for those outside its environs: with the beauty of Warwickshire, the character of Oxfordshire, the convenience of Buckinghamshire – and the price of Northamptonshire – I think it’s a county more people should get to know!

Films of 2017 your teens won’t want to miss

12 Feb 2017

What do I know about films our teens will wanna watch? I once remember dropping Mr and Mini Muddy off at screen 2 for Shawn The Sheep, while I hot-footed it over to the screen next door for 50 Shades (don’t judge, you would have done the same if you could ; ) Anyhoo, in absence of teenage brain, I asked film aficionado and Northants student, Liam Waterhouse to pick out his mega movies for 2017 (I notice he hasn’t put in the new 50 Shades film, so I’ll report separately on that (ahem) AND Beauty and the Beast which I’m mucho excited about…anyway, enough from me and my fluffiness (but doesn’t Emma Watson look pretty as Belle, ahhhh)!
