5 fun things to do near Towcester Racecourse

Entertainment, dining and exhilarating experiences. We've got it all right here.Day out, anyone?

Towcester Racecourse has got us filling our diaries full of events for 2020. The greyhounds are back, there’s glamping and the new management have amazing plans for sailing on the lakes, al fresco opera performances alongside huge music, food and well-being festivals. We LOVE it and and it’s set to be THE entertainment hub for Northants. So, now we know the county’s hot spot for the year, we’ve put together a few exciting things the Towcester ‘hood has to offer nearby.

Race around at Silverstone Circuit

From Formula 1, driving experiences and venue hire, it’s all about revving up the fun at Silverstone! Whether you go for one of the several events they host or even get to race around the track yourself, it’s all about exhilaration here; it’s the ultimate experience for any racing fanatic. The events are family-friendly with stuff to keep any ages entertained – whether it’s live performances or a fun fair, they deliver packed out, full-day events. Put your pedal to the metal and get over there.

Take a chill pill at Grafton Spa, Potterspury

Grafton Spa at Potterspury – Muddy Award Winners for best Northants Spa in both 2016 and 2017- these guys are good. They’re in the fabulous little shopping emporium of Wakefield Court, where you’ll also find ARTea and another Muddy Award winner Vitreus Art (more lovely people). It’s a cute salon when you walk in. Definitely not one of those overly, feng shui’d salons, all chrome and steel minimalism. It has a nice, buzzy feel; lots of products and things going on. It’s a relatively small building, but when you walk through the back, the owner has knocked through to the other unit, and created a beautiful, almost Tardis like sized space.  Te team often offer spa packages from £79 per person. They typically include 4 hours in the spa, a delicious cocktail like an Elderflower Bellini and four relaxing treatments (examples below):

  • A sumptuous scrub to exfoliate and renew skin
  • An invigorating back massage
  • A mini facial for youthful radiance
  • A gel manicure or pedicure to finish the look!

Fine Dining at The Folly Inn and 185 Watling street

It’s a real perk of the job being able to visit some great Northamptonshire pubs and restaurants with my Muddy hat on. I’ve been fortunate enough to visit both The Folly Inn and 185 Watling Street, both situated in Towcester and offering some great food.

Check out our reviews and see if they tickles your taste buds. Book ahead – it’s going to be busy once Towcester Racecourse is in full swing.

Visit the theatre: Royal & Derngate

The Derngate is the main hub for live theatre in Northants, offering a diverse programme of drama, music, dance, comedy and film. They welcome touring companies and put on hit shows which leave audiences buzzing, which have helped them to win several awards over the years. This year, expect to see popular shows like Everybody’s Talking About Jamie, Priscilla, Hairspray, and comedy from Jimmy Carr and Rob Beckett.

The Rennie Mackintosh House, 78 Derngate

78 Derngate is an award-winning historic house in the heart of Northampton. Famously remodelled by Charles Rennie Mackintosh in 1916, it is the only house designed by him in England (it really is very cool and definitely worth a visit). Famed, not only for its Charles Rennie Mackintosh design, but now also as an elegant and special venue offering afternoon tea, stylish shopping, art exhibitions and corporate events.
