What's the hot gossip going on in and around Northants?

Beautiful Northamptonshire pub reopening start of the new year.

Opening their brand spanking new doors on Feb 3rd next year, The Kings Head at Wadenhoe are excited to invite us all over for their launch night on Feb 7th with new landlady Andrea at the helm. During the day the bottom restaurant will be running as a lovely little tearoom and in the evening it’ll be a welcoming and inviting restaurant. They are working closely with our friends Canoe2, who run canoe trips from 1st May through to the end of September, with The Kings Head being a stopping point on the Thrapston to Oundle day-trip. It takes you right into the garden so you can have a bite to eat before heading back out onto the water. This was a great pub with a superb location and amazing food; so we have high hopes once more.

Say hello to your new fave chocolate, the number 1 destination for your guilt free treats.

We love delicious chocolate as much as the next person, but what we also love are sustainable and ethical brands that really practice what they preach. At online retailer Cocoa & Cacao, it’s all about chocolate with a purpose. Not only do 25% of profits get donated to the reforestation charity TREE AID, all the chocolate they stock is plastic free (the only plastic they use is home compostable and biodegradable). ALL of the chocolate is palm oil free too. So when you treat yourself, you know you’re doing some good. Their aim is to become the Majestic of chocolate and they’ve recently launched with a solid list of brands; including Northamptonshire’s very own Seed & Bean. On the website you’ll also see Cocoa & Cacao’s weekly recommendations and they have something for everyone’s taste buds. Dark to vegan, white to milk, plus a whole lot more choco goodness.

One of Northamptonshires most popular country pubs wins top food and drink award.

The Brampton Halt which is in the lovely Chapel Brampton has won the Food and Drink prize at the Northamptonshire Business Awards (NBA). The pub which is family run is popular for its outdoor dining that overlooks the beautiful greenery, and also popular with weddings and a great venue for most occasions. The award was given to recognise their excellent service and high-quality menu. After the McManus  family brought the pub, they injected £1m into kitting it out and giving it a new look and it has now been run by husband and wife team, Tim and Donna Leah for over 15 years. Gary McManus said “The Brampton Halt represents the epitome of traditional English country pubs. We have a passion for excellence, coupled with constant investment. We pride ourselves in serving quality, locally-sourced food and beverages, combined with first-class service”. If you’re yet to visit the Brampton, it’s located on the Brampton Way, which is the old railway line that ran through Northampton.

Gin and Rum festival is returning to Northampton.

Guess who’s back? It’s only the largest touring Gin and Rum Festival and it’s coming back in March next year at The County Cricket Ground in Abington Avenue. There are over 120 expected drinks, obviously we’re not recommending you drink them all, but you can spend the day browsing and chatting to find the drink that’s right for you. The festival went across 30 cities this year and the team are super excited to bring it back to Northampton, and so are we! Last year the event sold out so book your tickets here before they go. As well as a whole lot of drinks, there’s live entertainment, street food and a great atmosphere. Everyone booked in to go in 2020 will get a re-useable steel straw and two miniature gin or rum bottles to take home, plus the guide to see you through the event. It’s happening on Saturday 14th March with an afternoon and evening session available.

New dance class for over 65s launching at Royal & Derngate in collaboration with Dancemind.
Kicking off in January, The Elders Dance Company is a brand new dance class for the over 65’s which is free to join. If you know anyone that loves to have a boogie or wants to learn some new steps, everyone over 65 is more than welcome, no matter what background and abilities they have. Mixing up contemporary dance with fun and support, this is a great chance to get out and meet like-minded people whilst exploring your creative side and of course looking after your physical and mental health.  Founder of Dancemind Tina Helley commented “I am excited to be part of delivering this dance project and engage our older community in Northampton in dance. Regardless of the limitations we can frequently place on ourselves as we grow older, dance can be extremely accessible and welcoming to all, so we really want to encourage people to come along and try it for themselves.” All sessions have one dance and a 30 minute chat over a cuppa, a great way to mingle and meet new people and fellow dancers. All classes run weekly at Royal and Derngate from 1-2:30 pm on Thursdays, starting 9th January to 19th March 2020. If you fancy more information check out their website here, and remember all places have to be booked in advance. As Strictly say; keeeeep dancing!
