What is Muddy Stilettos Northants?
Muddy Stilettos has a simple premise: to be a witty but indispensable local guide to the very best restaurants, walks, boutiques, day trips, hotels, interiors and events. It’s also a platform for lovely local businesses to get their message across, and for us to see what an amazing and creative county we live in.
So how do I make that happen? After almost 20 years as a journalist (writing for magazines, websites and major brands) and spending many a cold and wet dawn on train platforms commuting to London, I decided to follow a dream that I’ve had for a long time; experience and write about the things that I love. The lure of working closer to home helped too, and what’s the point in living in such a beautiful county if I don’t get to enjoy all the amazing things on my doorstop (and what better county for a Muddy Stiletto, than Northamptonshire the shoe making capital of the world)!! So here I am, editor of Muddy Northants.
Am I a Muddy Stiletto gal? Well I’m the woman who goes out for a whole evening before realising I’ve left the tags on my clothes; I’m also a hard grafter and a professional woman; I’m a Mum of two and a party girl with a penchant for bubbles (they’re not mutually exclusive right ; ) So yes, I guess I am probably pretty typical of a Muddy Stiletto reader, and I hope you enjoy my musings and adventures across this fair county.
This isn’t a blog about me (although I will clearly feature in various states of unkemptness, since I’ll be the guinea pig trying everything out); it’s more about that kitsch new diner; that emerging artist or new attitude on life. If you want an honest review of places from indie record stores to independent schools in the area, check out Muddy Northants (school reviews to come later in the year). Muddy Stilettos is about things that are part of my life and yours; food, kids, not kids, hotels, fashion, sport, beauty. Things that I think are amazing and worth checking out, because that’s what I would want to read about.
I’d love your suggestions and comments too. I’d appreciate all of your recommendations on something you have found wonderful or rewarding— so if you know about a great kid-friendly cafe, tell me! A muddy walk with a welcoming pub at the end of it or a quirky fashion boutique tucked away down a backstreet? I’m your woman!
Everything is checked out by me personally, with a focus on the quirky and interesting; so no advertorial, no PR guff and a genuine, upbeat honesty. All opinions are my own, I’ll try not to offend too often ; )
I really do hope you love the blog/online magazine/call it what you will; please tell your friends about it, and sign up for my stupendous free posts, delivered to your inbox!
Thanks for taking the time to read this, thank you for being part of something special…let’s have a laugh!
Ps – This is the Muddy Mantra, so you know what to expect from the blog:
- I try everything out myself so that you can fully trust my opinions. On the occasions that I haven’t been somewhere myself, I let you know that’s the case.
- I don’t write advertorial. This means I will never accept payment to write about something I don’t believe in.
- I won’t write nasty reviews. I’m not into trashing people, brands or companies, but if the experience wasn’t good enough, I won’t write about it in Muddy Stilettos, regardless of whether I have paid for the experience or not. This gives me the editorial control I need for a successful blog and the trust that my readers require.
- I accept tickets to free shows, festivals, restaurants, events etc. with the purpose of reviewing or publicising them on Muddy Stilettos (as I’m sure you appreciate it’s pretty expensive zipping around trying stuff out all of the time). Hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars – if you would like me to try you out, please get in touch at [email protected]
