Summer’s Outdoor Cinema Hotspots
Grab yer blanket, find that old camping chair and book your tickets. We've got the best places to catch a movie outdoors in Northants
Yes, they’re everywhere at the moment, but that’s just because you love them. Who wouldn’t want to spend a few hours in the sun (if it’s out, which sadly we can’t guarantee) with friends, food and drinks enjoying a classic film or two? Here are some of Northants’ outdoor cinema experiences this summer, so sit back, relax and enjoy!
Not only is Turvey House beautiful but the grounds and surrounding parkland are just as pretty and this summer they are inviting all of you film lovers over to watch Dirty Dancing and The Lost Boys; brought to you by those film guys in the know at Lunaflix. Dirty Dancing will be shown on Fri 28 June and The Lost Boys the day after, Sat 29, so why not make a weekend out of it? Book online here.
This summer, Franklin’s Gardens will be transformed into an open-air cinema experience showing Oscar-nominated Bohemian Rhapsody and everyone’s much loved musical The Greatest Showman. A state-of-the-art screen will be set up in front of the Church’s stand on Thurs 20 and Fri 21 June and is expected to attract hundreds of movie lovers. Food and drink aren’t allowed in but you can buy some from on-site bars and food concessions, and you can bring your own blankets, pop up chairs and pillows to relax and enjoy the evening in comfort.
A new addition to the outdoor cinema landscape, Sywell Aerodrome have joined in the fun and are going to be showing Top Gun at their airfield (planes on stand by for your delectation)! The guys from Lunaflix will be showing the film on their mega screen (with great quality and sound) on Fri 12 July, where you can bring your own refreshments and enjoy this much loved 80’s action classic.
Stanwick Lakes is holding a bunch of outdoor cinema events this year as part of their Movies by the Lake experience. You can enjoy a range of films for you and for the kids, but to be honest, aren’t kids films sometimes better? From Monsters Inc and Storks to Mamma Mia! and A Quiet Place, something for everyone awaits where you can enjoy popcorn on a bean bag, glass in hand, snuggled in a blanket – just perfect.
We may have already covered this place in another post, but we can’t ignore how beautiful it is, perfect to spend a few hours watching a film in truly beautiful surroundings, trust us, we’ve been before, and we will be back. This summer A Star is Born, and Bohemian Rhapsody are making an appearance on Lunaflix’s screen, with two dates for Bohemian, one already sold out, so be quick, and get your tickets and rock up to the grounds with your food and drink and be ready to sing along. Lunaflix will be returning on Sat 21 Sept but have not yet given us what film they will be showing, so keep a watch out here and be the first to find out. Can we suggest Mean Girls or Spice World please?
