What’s on this week in Northants
If you're itching to get out and about then step this way for our pick of all the best stuff to do this week in Northants, from stately homes to guerilla bike rides.
The gardens and park at the magnificent Boughton House will re-open on Saturday 1 August. It’s known as the English Versailles and it’s not hard to see why. Make like Marie-Antoinette and let the kids eat cake in the beautifully landscaped grounds, which include a rather spectacular inverted pyramid.
The park and gardens at Althorp, family seat of the Spencer family, will be open to visitors this year for the month of August, with a one way system in place to allow visitors to flow safely through the gardens. Don your fave vintage Laura Ashley dress and take a picnic along to enjoy on the beautiful lawns and absorb the serene atmosphere of Princess Diana’s childhood home.
Attention! The Visitor Centre at Weedon Royal Ordnance Depot re-opens on Sunday 2 August, Wednesdays and Sundays only. If you’ve got family members with an interest in military history then they’ll love finding out all about what was once the epicentre of British military might. Whilst you’re here, there is plenty to do and explore, from bouldering to yoga and vintage shopping.
All aboard! Northampton and Lamport Railway will be re-opening on Sunday 2 August, with steam and heritage diesel train rides alongside the very lovely Brampton Valley Way. Please make sure you book in advance.
Oh, Sandy, drive-in movies have well and truly arrived and with our newfound need for social distancing they are a fab way of getting out whilst staying safe. The rather picturesque Delapré Abbey is hosting a brilliant season of films courtesy of Northampton Filmhouse and what a fantastic venue, with it’s grassy lawn sloping down towards the giant screen, there’s plenty of space to take your camping chairs and sit out on in the fresh air. You can even grab some dinner from the fabulous Frank’s Hamburger’s while you’re there. Oh, and the loos are lovely – good to know. This week, take you pick from Knives Out, Fargo, The Lego Movie, Romeo and Juliet, David Copperfield, Back to the Future, Parasite, Grease and The greatest Showman. Phew! With loads more on over the next few weeks

Ironstone Wellbeing in Kettering are re-opening fully from next week, but you can still pop along for an outdoor, socially distanced session or enjoy a free online class until then. AND you could even be in with a chance to win a month of free classes if you download their app.
