The Muddy Awards 2017

Roll that drum, my Mudsters!

Dig out your Dior, polish that crystal and put the champers on ice, because the Muddy Awards are rolling into town. We want to shout from the rooftops (hard in heels, but we’ll give it our best shot) about Northamptonshire’s indy businesses in all their quirky, unmissable, glorious erm, glory – from food producers to destination pubs, fabulous theatres to fashion boutiques .

Will Steve Reid of Friars Farm get to wear this spectacular award collection shirt again in 2017?

The awards are the bees knees, the dogs… ahem, you get my drift, previous winners include Best interiors shop,  A.Bell of Northampton, Best wine distributor, Hart Family Brewers, and Best hairdresser, Salonista of Corby.

Last year was our first year of awards in Northants but they’ve been going for five years in Bucks and Oxon and this year they’re running simultaneously across 18 counties including, of course, Northamptonshire – so grab those ear defenders because there’s going to be some serious buzz.

Anyone can nominate a business and entry is gratis, nada, free as a bean; time to pull on that fetching Philip Treacy number and think about who should be up for an award.

Nominations open at Muddy Northants from midday, Weds 3 May and are open until Fri 26 May 2017 – you can nominate any business based in Northants in any of the 27 categories – please support those plucky local businesses who deserve a pat on the back! There is  a special on-line form on the website so that you can vote during this first round.

If you’re a business who’d like to get involved ask a friend to nominate you and you’re away. If you think you’re the best in the county, you can nominate yourself. Voting is strictly once per category per email address. In voting you agree to receive the Muddy Stilettos newsletter, but can unsubscribe in a single click at any time.

We then count up the nominations we’ve received and produce a top 5 under each category based on the quantity of votes received in the first round.  Then we enter round 2 which runs from Weds 7 – 14 June, and we invite all Mudsters to go into a refreshed voting page and cast your vote for your Muddy Awards 2017 winner of each category. The Finals are held live on the Awards site in real time, so as you vote the percentages will move and you will be able to see who is winning. (Please note: many thousands vote in these Awards and the longer the competition goes on, the longer it takes for percentages to move!)

Many of the 27 Muddy Awards 2017 categories are niche, deliberately included to help the cool, small indie businesses who don’t get a look in during bigger, more traditional awards, so *please-please-beg-weep-please* take time to scroll through them and vote in as many categories as you can. It could make all the difference to a brilliant local business.

The Finals last one week only, and close at 12pm on Weds 14 June with Winners declared later that day.

They will receive a unique Muddy Stilettos certificate, Awards window rosette and lots of help gaining coverage in regional and social media. And hot off the press, the Awards Ceremony on June 23 will be held at the beautiful Cranford Hall. Sponsors already include Warner Edwards, Bread & Pullet and Fizz76. Please see below for the full list of categories.

AWARDS CATEGORIES:

Best… Art Gallery; Bar; Beauty Salon; Bookshop; Boutique Hotel; Café; Children’s Store; Complementary Therapy Centre; Day Spa; Deli/Farm Shop; Destination Pub; Family Attraction; Fitness Instructor; Florist; Glamping; Local Food Producer; Gift Shop; Hair Salon; Interiors; Jewellery Store; Mens’ Store; Photographer; Restaurant; Theatre; Wine Shop; Women’s Store; Yoga/Pilates Studio

Look at those smiles. These people look like 2016 winners to me. Let’s go again in 2017

Muddy Stilettos, what’s that then?

Muddy Stilettos is the most influential lifestyle blog in the region, Best Arts & Culture Finalist at the UK National Blog Awards 2017 and Winner of Most Innovative Blog in the UK in 2015.

The blog launched initially in Buckinghamshire & Oxfordshire, written by ex Red, Marie Claire and Independent on Sunday journalist Hero Brown, now runs across 18 English counties, acting as the ultimate ‘urban guide to the countryside’ – a witty, informative guide to the very best food, walks, boutiques, day trips, hotels, interiors and events for those who live outside London but don’t have the desire to wear Alice bands and welly boots every day.

An uncompromising commitment to independence, quality and high editorial standards lies at the heart of Muddy Stilettos, which is why readers feel so loyal to the blog and act on its recommendations. The same principle runs through The Muddy Stilettos Awards – our desire is to find and celebrate the most genuinely brilliant, unique, quirky, exciting businesses in the area. Our category structure of 27 lifestyle businesses means that small plucky companies that often fall through the cracks of other competitions are given their chance to shine

Hi Kelly, I’m really sorry to say that there’s no category for non food local producer this year, but Muddy loves your work and we would really like to collaborate with you in the future. Your handiwork and craft is just lovely. Please feel free to e.mail me if you’re interested, and perhaps check out our Little Black book section on the blog to see how we can promote your business.

Hi Becky, thanks for getting in touch. From 3 May until 26 May there’ll be a special on-line form on the website where you can nominate a Northants business under each of the 26 categories. We then count up the nominations and produce a top 5 under each category, which you can then go in and vote for again between 7 – 14 June. After that there will be one outright winner in each category and the Muddy Award 2017 will go to that them (Cue sound of champagne popping and much hilarity). he awards will then be given out at an event at Cranford Hall on 23 June. Get your voting trigger ready

Hi, do these categories apply to bricks and mortar businesses only or can online stores apply too? (Not even sure if I fit into any of the categories though!)

    Thank you x
