5 Reasons to Visit The Men’s Room – Market Harborough
No, it’s not some public loo over the Leicestershire border, it’s a very cool barbers; modern, with a classic twist and a specialism in hot towels (great at this time of year I imagine). Now we have quite a few male readers on Muddy Stilettos Northants, and I don’t think it’s really authentic for me to go and sit in the barber’s chair for a review, so on this occasion, help was on hand in the form of one of our Muddy team, Lauren Lawless and her very own Mr Muddy! Take it away Lauren…
There are many reasons to visit the barbers – job interview, wedding, a nagging other half – but there are 5 great reasons to make that barbers The Men’s Room in Market Harborough. I took my Muddy man and his hairy face to see Ricky, the salon manager and to find out why everyone is banging on about their hot towel shave.
1. The welcome.
It’s policy in this salon that everyone is greeted and acknowledged when they arrive. As a woman it could be intimidating to venture into the recesses of male grooming but the team that owner Jon has hand-picked make an inclusive and intimate atmosphere. There is no locker room banter here and I felt like one of the boys in no time! Swiftly seated in the hot seat, the male Muddy specimen was made to feel comfortable and ready to tidy up that ‘do. It’s easy to see why men aged 1 to 100 come here, there are no egos and everyone is genuinely pleased to see you.
2. The attention to detail
Ricky was excellent at deciphering our guinea pig’s vague style request and listened intently. He regularly checked that he was on the right track and each hair was snipped with care. When it came to the shave, the man approached it like a ritual! The skin was smoothed and shaved and oiled to perfection. No follicle was left unpreened. The salon itself is minimalist and stripped back without losing its charm. A Jim Beam bottle here and a skateboard there, the free beer (I KNOW!) and sensational coffee go to show that it’s the little touches that make a place exceptional.
3. The products
As well as a towel warmer (yes that’s a thing!) the salon uses Reuzel and Muk products that are just the right side of masculine to make any customer worth his salt feel manly yet suitably pampered. Where else can you get a bottle of shaving oil with a pig on the front, out of a vintage suitcase? That plus the fact that it will leave any man looking and smelling better than when they came in is enough to convert even the most vehement skin care skeptic.
4. The staff
I could write all day about how fabulous the staff were. Not only were they all equally talented barbers but they had a spirit that was infectious. Ricky leads a mixed team of male and female staff which in itself is unusual among barber shops. It’s a model that is employed over all three of the shops within the company, with a team of 20 barbers in total. You could tell that everyone loved their jobs – it was 9am on a Saturday and everyone had a big, fat smile on their faces – and they really liked each other too. It was the comradery and the willingness to learn, improve and support one another that really came across. As the morning wore on and business picked up, everyone pitched in regardless of position or rank. That kind of teamwork is hard to teach and made Men’s Room a fun place to be too.
5. The location
Men’s Room Market Harborough is the newest of 3 shops owned by Jon. The first being The Men’s Room in Kettering, followed by Gatsby in Corby. If Leicestershire is too far over the border for you then you can get a taste of what The Men’s Room is all about at one of the other locations. The staff are all equally great whichever you choose. With vouchers for sale, no appointments necessary and late opening on several days across the salons, there will never be an excuse for any man not to look his best. The Muddy man was left looking rather sharp after his de-fuzz and I think his eyes were opened to the wonderful world of skincare. It remains to be seen if this will continue, but if he comes home baby faced and slightly squiffy I will know where he’s been.
The Men’s Room are offering a whopping 20 per cent off to all Muddy readers, just mention the offer when you book!
