Carmen Walker – Hair & Makeup Artist
Whatever your look, style, skin colour or vibe, Carmen can sort, even if you don't know what it is you want!
- Recommendations Mudsters! I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; you can’t beat a recommendation from somebody you trust, and Carmen Walker came under the Muddy radar thanks to LG Beauty Suite who I trust and who uses Carmen as her go-to hair girl (plus Carmen’s a great advert for her skills and a bit of an Instagram lovley)!
Located in the heart of Northampton (but flexible on where she can be), Carmen Walker is the home away from home for every client who sits in her chair. But her real selling point..? If you don’t know what you want, worry not, she will. She ascertains your needs by looking at your clothes, your current style and how you interact. She’s totally on the ball!
Carmen started in the hair industry by working in a family business at the age of 10 (listen up Mudlets) and eventually working her way up (you can tell she’s very at ease talking to new people, so if you’re a nervous salon visitor, fear not). As a qualified hairdresser in all types of hair, she quickly realized that she needed additional experience to get to the top, and sought out well-established training academies in Northampton, Manchester & Birmingham to make sure she’d excel at her craft. When I arrived for a colour and cut, Carmen was warm and chatty and advised that we blend the colours for a more natural look.
She was confident, in control, and actually very quick (not one of those sit in the chair for three hours experiences)!
I loved the results. It was much more natural than I’d go for normally, but it works really well with minimum make-up and is in such good condition, I don’t need to worry about the sun battering it’s going to get in 35 degree, Turkish heat! Carmen works on all sorts of hair and all sorts of people, so don’t worry if you have a ‘fro or whispy, baby blonde, she’s been there and done it!
She also specialises in makeup and has trained with some industry faves (she’s happy to chat about her experiences, so don’t be shy and have a natter). As with her hair skills, she takes in what kind of makeup look each person will want by what they’re already wearing and how they are.
I messed up my timings for a makeup job, but it’s definitely on the hit list, especially after seeing some of her looks (I’m just wondering how she’s going to make my eyebrows look like they’re actually there, but looking at her work, I think she’ll manage.
Makeup (including lashes) is around £40, and prices start from around £25 for cut and blow dry and £50 for colour.
