Eyebrow tattooing – tried and tested
After umming and ahing for years on whether to get her eyebrows tattooed, Muddy staffer Georgina takes the plunge at Beauty Classics. Here's how she got on.
As a teenager in the 90’s, having thick eyebrows was not high on my agenda. I was listening to The Spice Girls, singing “spice up your life” at the top of my lungs whilst happily plucking nearly all of my eyebrows away. And I wasn’t stopping until I had a perfect thin line on each side….Ginger Spice has a lot to answer for! My eyebrows grew back slightly and lived to tell the tale, but not to the extent that’s on-trend theses days, so when I heard about Elizabeth and Beauty Classics I was intrigued to say the least.
I’ve always been a bit of a fence sitter when it’s come to having my eyebrows tattooed. I’ve seen some really nice shaped ones that I’ve thought look great, and I’ve seen some (ah-hem) not so great ones too. After speaking to a school Mum recently who had raved about having her brows done and how much she loved them, despite my nerves I decided to take the plunge…
Elizabeth is reassuringly knowledgeable and takes what she does seriously. She has a very creative background, having spent 30 years as an art teacher at a secondary school. A career change saw her move into beauty and then finally to her speciality of eyebrow tattooing which she has been doing successfully for the last 5 years, with a number of repeat clients. I can totally see why; Elizabeth instantly made me feel at home with her warmth and kindness. Just in the first few minutes of us chatting, my nerves fade away and I’m taken by her passion and knowledge for what she does.
Once we’ve dotted the T’s on the all important paperwork, we sit down to discuss which colours and style I am looking for. I have a very set idea of what I want and what I like the most is that Elizabeth does not try to sway these in any way. She explains that I’m the client and she wants me to feel comfortable with the end result – I can’t ask for any more than that can I? My vision is to have a very natural look, nothing too thick, probably something like what I did have before Ginger Spice came into my life. Colour and shape decided, we move into the treatment room which is situated at the back of the house.
She begins with “measuring up” I shall call it. I don’t know the exact science behind this but after 5 minutes I have lines surrounding my eyebrows and underneath I can start to see the shape of my new brows starting to form. Next up is drawing on the template to the eyebrows and checking the colour. At this point I excitedly look in the mirror at what the new shape would look like – I am delighted! The final stage is the actual process of tattooing on the brow. A process that only takes around 5-10 minutes on each side. Does it hurt? Well, it does pull slightly but again I am in safe hands and Elizabeth’s prior advice of numbing cream is worth its weight in gold. Elizabeth shows me the end result and I could not be happier. After all these years my eyebrows finally have shape again.
If you are happy to be a model for Elizabeth the cost is an utterly brilliant £220 which includes a follow up treatments after 4-8 weeks. Otherwise the total cost is £290 – still very reasonable compared to some. After my top up visit, which didn’t need much, I am still thrilled!
