Who you gonna call? Get ready for your big night out.
Proper parties are back and we reckon you deserve a bit of pampering, so we've rounded up our go-to destinations for all the trimmings from frocks and facials to talons and tresses.
Word to the wise though [whispers], you don’t actually have to be going to a big do to treat yourself, so if you’re craving some me time then get these pros on speed dial pronto.
THE STYLE GURU
If you’re not sure where to start fashion-wise or if, like about 98% of the population (statistics off the top of my head) the pandemic has seen you clinging to your loungewear like it’s going out of fashion (clue: it is), then give Image Consultant Janine Coney of Own Your Style a whirl. From colour consultancy to style and visibility coaching, Janine is all about helping women to build the self-esteem to dress for themselves and feel fabulous, whatever their role in life. There’s also a private members style club run by Janine that you can join to help build your confidence and support your style journey.
THE FASHION FIXERS
After for some fresh threads for a big bash (or, you know, just ’cause)? Head to Thackerays Woman in Northampton. It’s more than just a clothes shop, it’s a family-run institution that’s been running for almost 50 years, and the team here will help you to find the togs that work best for you and make you feel like a million dollars. Trust us, you do not get this level of service and expertise from the high street chains. It’s super spacious and there are sofas to sit down on and rest your weary feet. Our kind of place.
THE HAIR EXPERTS
Owner and Artistic Director at The Beauty Works hair salon in Towcester Joanna Curley is our go-to colourist and hair guru and is passionate about helping women to feel amazing, leading a small team of pro stylists. We guarantee that you will not be able to leave this gorgeous salon without some serious hair swishing going on and they are top level when it comes to special occasion styling.
Fingertips can say a lot about a gal. Are you a French mani or a blinding bling kinda gal? Having been a nail nibbler for years (writer’s curse) I am now addicted to having a regular gel mani and toning my talons to the seasons, and I feel a bit under dressed nowadays if I haven’t got a fresh colour and a little bit of free edge. One of our favourite salons, The Hair and Beauty Room in Oundle, is the perfect place to get your nails did. You can get a mani, pedi and polish from one of the gorgeous team here and you’ll feel ready for anything.
TOP AND TAIL
From super indulgent facials (think microdermabrasion and skin peels) to waxing and threading. Muddy Award winning beauty salon Sasha Core in Kettering is the place to visit for all your plucking and preening requirements. They do a rather fancy non-surgical facelift, which uses electric pulses to tone the muscles (oh err and please can I get this or my thighs too?) and you can get your brows and lashes done whilst you’re here, so you’re party perfect in one fell swoop.
THE FULL MONTY
Whittlebury Spa is the perfect day retreat if you want to spend the whole day getting ready for your big do in a fluffy robe and slippers. Who wouldn’t? From a full body massage or hot stone therapy to an intensive facial and mani-pedi, you can let yourself feel like a pampered princess and emerge triumphant.
FACE THE MUSIC
No big night out feels complete without putting your face on, as Nana Muddy would say, and it’s always a little bit extra special when someone else works the magic on your behalf. Personally, I’m useless when it comes to make-up and usually end up looking like a panda in a powder paint factory. Try Helena Bailey, who has make-up and beauty studio at heart of the Shires shopping village in Weedon. She’s an expert at creating make-up looks that suit your style and skin tone, so you’ll still feel like you, only turned up to 11, and she only uses top notch brands like MAC, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier. Now you’re ready for your close-up.
