The HydraFacial – the best skin of your life?

Whoever said 'no pain no gain' hadn't tried the amazing HydraFacial! Are you ready to glow? Muddy tries out this brilliant treatment.

LOCATION

Situated in a historic Grade II listed building, the beauty and aesthetics clinic has recently moved and is now in The Settling Rooms, in the heart of Market Harborough. The clinic is tun by Natalie Godefroy, who’s been in the beauty game for quite some time – what she doesn’t know about healthy skin and beauty, is not worth knowing.

VIBE

When I walked in, what immediately caught my attention was the decor; no fluffy pink pillows or dated damask wallpaper insight,  instead it was clean, simple and sophisticated enhancing the building’s interior charm.

Attention has gone into the little details like the plush stools at the beauty bar and instead of plain black / white beautician outfits, Natalie and her staff were decked out in the salon’s lush royal blue colour.

The lovely Natalie is second from the left – see what I mean about her skin?!

Natalie uses the best beauty tech, which yes, comes at a price, but she’s passionate about getting your face looking its best and she’s totally results driven. She even uses her own IG account to show her own ‘before’ and ‘after’ pics – documenting everything from her Dermaquest chemical peel journey to the Vampire Facial (we’re not talking Halloween makeup).

Always trying to stay one step ahead, her salon was one of a few in Leicestershire to offer the HIFU (high intensity focused ultrasound) non-surgical face lift treatment (now others offer it too) and her Collagen Wave treatment is massively popular, but what I was here to try was a snazzy new treatment called the HydraFacial.

I’d heard lots about this treatment and it’s pretty standard practice in London but not many salons have it in our neck of the woods. As far as I can tell, only two salons in Leicester offer it and then there’s Beauty Defined in Market Harborough.

The treatment is all about improving the appearance of the skin/face and restoring it to a youthful, healthier version. Heard it all before? Wrong! What makes the HydraFacial so different is that it cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and hydrates in one treatment. It uses advanced tech jam-packed full of powerful antioxidants to help nourish the skin and counteract any damage. The full treatment has six specific steps to help you get to the part where you’re left with skin that’s to die for.

TREATMENT

Natalie referred to her treatment room as the ‘torture chamber’ (cue evil laugh) but there was nothing sinister about it. What I did notice was the HydraFacial machine – it looked like something you’d expect to see in a high tech science lab.

The small unit was loaded with four different tubes each filled with different lotions and serums. There was also a nifty little gadget attached to it, which I can only describe as a mini facial hoover. The suction tip at the end is applied to the skin to ‘suck’ out the bad stuff as well as cleansing and infusing it with the good stuff.

No they didn’t order a blue one to match the salon’s colour – coincidently this is the packaging of the HydraFacial unit.

Natalie started by gently cleansing my face and applying serum and then went onto use an acid peel. Now usually if I were to hear the words ‘acid’ and ‘peel’ in the same sentence, I’d jump a mile, but she only used 7.5% and explained that there would be no reaction or redness, perhaps just a tingling sensation, which I didn’t actually feel.

Next came something called the vortex extraction which removes blackheads and other impurities from the skin. The nasty stuff is sucked into a test tube and it’s worth taking a look to see what’s been extracted, although it may make you squirm.

The treatment was finished off by saturating my skin with the good stuff (antioxidants, peptides and hyaluronic acid) to maximise my glow. Yaaass please!

Even though the sound of the machine may be a little distracting, the actual treatment is far from ‘torturous’. It’s totally pain free but not as relaxing as a traditional facial, but the results of the HydraFacial are worth sacrificing a few of your regular facials for.

Usually the HydraFacial last 60 minutes and consists of six procedures but I had a 30 minute treatment so didn’t have the LED rejuvenation or the detox lymphatic drainage. On inspection, I definitely noticed a difference – smoother, brighter skin and my forehead especially had a sun-kissed glow. The treatment has a massive celeb following (Beyoncé, Suki Waterhouse and Karen Brady) and it’s not hard to see why; it’s totally non invasive and you don’t need any downtime to recover or hide any nasty red patches plus, you can wear make up immediately after and I was really impressed with the results.

Natalie suggests having the treatment once a month but you can increase it to once a week if you’ve got a big event coming up. Imagine rocking up to your school reunion with such a gorgeous glow!

There’s also other add-on treatments for eyes and lips that you could go for which come as a ‘treatment in a tube’ kinda thing. Created by the same bods behind the HydraFacial, Perk (don’t you just love the name?) is a quick affordable way to treat the sensitive areas around the eyes and lips. What I loved about this treatment was, you can literally pop into the clinic during your lunch break, sit at the beauty bar and boost these area without any downtime. Best of all? You get to take home the rest of the tube and can apply it when you need a boost.

PRICE

The HydraFacial costs £120 per session (60 minute treatment). If you want any boosters i.e anti-ageing, skin pigmentation treatment or a stronger glycolic acid, the cost is £150 per treatment. Beauty Defined is offering a course of 6 treatments (pay for 5) 12 treatments (pay for 9) or 16 sessions (pay for only 11). Individual Perk treatments are £45 and last 15-20 minutes at the clinic’s beauty bar.
