Can't be faffed to juggle a zillion pots at once? Chillax, just order in. Try one of these Northants Sunday roasts for a crackingly easy end to the week.
The White Horse, Kings Sutton
The White Horse have really gone to town with their lockdown offering, setting up a new venture offering dine-at-home meals from the pub under the new moniker of H&J Co. (the initials of owners Hendrick and Julie). Fancy 17 Hour Slow cooked Pork Belly with Salt Baked Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables, Apple Sauce & Pork Gravy? Thought you might. Oh, and there are pies. Amazing pies.
The Red Lion, Hellidon
This gorgeous pub boasts one of the most idyllic locations in the county, surrounded as it is by fabulous walks in rolling, unspoilt countryside, but for now we’ll make do with loosening our waistbands (again) and focusing on their juicy Sunday roast takeaways to enjoy in the comfort of our own homes and with no post-roast pans to scrub Yippeee!
The King’s Head, Spratton
Baked scallops? Forest mushroom wellington? Or are you more of a black Angus sirloin of beef kinda gal? No matter, there is something for everyone here at the King’s Head including a fantastic kids menu and some pretty dishy puds too. Save me from my greedy self.
The Falcon Inn, Fotheringhay
Owners Zac and Madison took over the Falcon Inn jin early 2020 and have certainly had a rollercoaster of a year. (Read our review here.) But they’ve pulled it out of the bag with their tremendous Sunday lunches, which come ready to roast at home. You can choose from a variety of different meats or a veggie option, which are packaged up with all the trimmings and they also do wood fired pizzas and fish and chips, as well as a fabulous local shop for all the essentials.
The Plough, Shutlanger
The Plough always gets a mention as one of the top spots on Northants for a Sunday roast and, true to form, they’ve turned their hand to conjuring up the most incredible takeaway roasts, from pork loin, topside of beef and leg of lamb, to crispy nut roasts with roasties, Yorkshires and seasonal veg, you can also order from their regular takeaway menu, which features pies, pasta and noodle dishes, as well as kids menu. While you’re there, you can pick up your essentials from their shop too.
The Red Lion, Yardley Hastings
We’re big fans of the Red Lion’s fabulous dine-at-home menus. They’ve been laying on regular special occasion lockdown takeout feasts with Head Chef Emma Fowkes working her creative magic at the helm, and now they’re offering incredible restaurant-quality ready-meals too. Choose from a range of mouth-watering dishes including slow-cooked pork shoulder lasagne, beer braised beef and coq-au-vin.
The Folly Inn, Towcester
The Folly have teamed up with private chefs The Brothers Supper to bring high quality, ready to finish, dine at home meals to enjoy in lockdown. You can choose from a five course tasting menu or a sumptuous Sunday roast with up to three meats on your plate.
The Fox and Hounds, Charwelton
The Fox and Hounds in Charwelton is a super-friendly pub where the menu always offers something a little bit different, so you can expect dry aged sirloin of beef with all the trimmings, but if you’ve also got family members who want an exciting alternative, these guys have got you covered. Choices include gnocchi with blue cheese and beetroot, monkfish and king prawn curry and a black bream fillet with potato rosti, so a great little pub if your party don’t all want to go for the trad meat with all the trimmings option.
