A second glass of fizz on March 26? Go on, yer Mother would!
Mothering Sunday – A day out for Mums, Sons, Daughters and anyone inbetween…
They come in all shapes and sizes, we love them, and they can drive us mad but on this day more than any other we celebrate them all. There are a host of lovely lunches already planned for our Northants Mums, but I ask you, is there a more idyllic setting for a celebration of maternal appreciation than the rolling Northamptonshire countryside and a trip up or down the Welford road? Travel in either direction, from the A14 or north from Northampton town centre and the road gives you spectacular views and access to some brilliant Muddy boltholes.
The villages of Thornby, Cold Ashby, Guilsborough, Spratton, Chapel Brampton and Church Brampton, all have their own charm, and some fabulous pubs to impress Mumsta with. Of course you also have the garden as Coton Manor to nip along to for a walk around their lovely gardens (sadly only open from 1 April), but with Brixworth Park and the beautiful Pitsford Water only minutes away there are plenty of places to take in some of the best countryside the county has to offer and work up an appetite before the celebrations commence.
Two Muddy favourites in the local area that you might want to consider for treating Mum are Highgate House in Creaton or Brasserie 23 at The Kings Head Bistro in Spratton.
The Terrace Restaurant at Highgate House has a Mothering Sunday special menu and you can also enjoy a traditional Sunday lunch prepared by their award-winning team of chefs. Even better each Mum within your party will receive a complimentary gift! Bookings are from 12:30pm with some later tables available at 3-4pm. We’re advised that last year was a sell out so please book soon to avoid disappointment. Cost per person is £28. Children 4-12 years old are half price, and under 4 years are free.
The Kings Head offers the best of British tradition with a contemporary vibe. Using local fresh produce, Head Chef, Daniel Tompkins serves up traditional seasonal country dishes with his own signature flourish. The team at Brasseries 23 were recently nominated as a finalist for restaurant of the year at Northamptonshire food and drink awards 2016/17 and they’ve got a special Mothers Day menu on offer too. 2 courses £ 22.95 | 3 courses £ 27.95 Children under 12, 2 courses £ 16.95 In both cases, book as soon as you can as we think they’ll be a rush to get to the high table.
