Dovecote Farm Shop and Buttery, Newton
Traditional family farm with a strong emphasis on sustainability and conservation of the natural environment, Dovecote Farm offers pick your own fruits in addition to their well-stocked farm shop where you’ll find everything from speciality food and drink to everyday basics, toiletries and gifts. There’s also a delightful tea room with plenty of outside seating and a children’s play area.
White’s Nurseries, Earls Barton
Amazingly, White’s started as a small shop in Earls Barton way back in the 1940s and this family run business has been going from strength to strength ever since, with several changes of premises along the way. You’ll find locally grown and homemade produce in abundance, including fresh milk and dairy products, a huge range of cheese from Folwer’s of Earlswood, local free range eggs, fresh juices and artisan drinks, honeys and preserves, cakes and breads as well as freshly prepared ready meals to take home. You can even pick up logs and kindling for the fore. White’s also offer a box delivery service within a 10 mile radius of Earls Barton and there’s even a show ground on site, which plays host to regular events.
Beckworth Emporium, Mears Ashby
The food hall at Beckworth Emporium works alongside some fabulous local suppliers to provide a broad range of fresh food and pantry staples including meat and fish, ready meals, bread, dairy products and real ales from Gun Dog Ales in Woodford Halse. You’ll also find an extensive deli counter and a restaurant where you can sample the goods.
Waterloo Cottage, Great Oxenden
Waterloo Cottage Farm have their own herds of pasture fed cattle and sheep and free range pigs and place a very high level of importance on welfare standards, so you’ll find pasture fed meats and award wining charcuterie alongside Newlands Farm dairy products from nearby Hardwick, Manor Farm yoghurt, bread from Wesses bakery in Market Harborough, Clipston eggs, and tons of fresh fruit and veg.
Pastures Farm Poultry, Yardley Hastings
There’s a delightful cafe at Pastures Farm, where you’ll also find a wide range of fresh and frozen poultry from the farm, as well as homemade pies, pasties, sausage rolls, quiches, puddings and preserves. It’s not just chicken here, Pastures also rear ducks, turkeys, geese and Guinea fowl. Meats from local producers are available as well as milk, ice cream, gins and beers. There are oils from The Fruity Farm , goats cheese from Redlands Farm and bread from Whittlebury Bakery.
Scotch Lodge, Earls Barton
A working family farm with a fab shop and cafe, Scotch Lodge sell wild game, home made sausages and burgers, charcuterie, fish, cakes and preserves and locally produced ready meals from the farm in Earls Barton, which has been in the family since the Second World War. You’ll also find a fantastic range of fresh herbs available and they also host foodie events and craft workshops.
Glebe Farm, Kettering
Local supplies you won’t find in the supermarket including homemade breads and honey from bees on the farm. But as well as the foods produced here on site, there’s also plenty of other local produce with the intention of providing an alternative to the generic chain supermarkets, including English wines and ales and fresh produce. You can also arrange delivery of gas, coal, firewood, coal and potatoes, buy a shed here and get your garden landscaped, job done.
The Deli, Castle Ashby
A fantastic artisan deli and cafe set in the rural shopping courtyard in Castle Ashby village selling a fab range of local produce including charcuterie and cheese, freshly baked breads, preserves, wines, chocolates, flowers and gifts. You can also sit in the cafe and enjoy coffee and cake, or a share a cheese board and a bottle of locally produced, organic wine, and if you can’t make it out to the shop you can order online.
Porterswood Farm, Whittlebury
A traditional family farm producing a range of condiments and pickles, as well as cakes and sandwiches. There is a wide range of fruit veg available, all produced on the farm, as well as free range eggs and chicken, rare breed pork, and Christmas turkeys and geese. You’ll even find firewood and kindling cut right here on the farm, Norway Spruce Christmas trees in season, and there’s a fishing lake here too, if you’re after the catch of the day.
Radmore Farm Shop, Litchborough
A lovely little chalet style shop based at Radmore Cattery, where you can buy home produced vegetables and meats, including sausages, all from livestock reared on the farm free range eggs, ice cream and preserves. You’ll also find hay and straw for your furry friends, local crafts and a selection of plants for sale. Everything is locally produced with the intention of reducing food miles.
Bell Plantation, Towcester
There’s a wide range of locally produced food available from the recently expanded food hall at Bell Plantation Garden Centre, with fresh and cooked meats, locally baked breads, Northamptonshire dairy products, a vast array of cooking ingredients, pastas and sauces, world foods, fresh ready meals, cakes baked in the on site cafe, biscuits and sweets as well as alcoholic drinks including locally brewed beers from Towcester Mill Brewery. The cafe here is fantastically popular and you can even buy your own chickens at the poultry centre.
Limes Farm, Farthinghoe
A shop and tea room where fresh bread is baked on site daily. The Deeley family are passionate about the food they produce here on the farm, which has been in the family for 200 years, and traditional farming methods are a great passion. There is a wide range of home reared meat available to buy, as well as produce from other nearby farms too. There’s fruit from the farm’s own trees and bushes, which is also used to make jams and juices and fresh veg grown on site too.
New Creation Farm, Nether Heyford
A fruit farm growing and selling a variety of seasonal fruits and juices (my Mudlets declared it the best apple juice they had ever tasted!) , with a particular emphasis on traditional varieties of apple. You’ll also find home-produced honey on sale, excellent for hay-fever sufferers, apparently, as well as Nene Valley firewood.
New Lodge Farm, Rockingham
An organic cattle and sheep farm selling home reared meats with a high standard of animal welfare and the produce here is all either homegrown on site or locally reared and grown. There’s an extensive range of fresh food and produce available, including fruit and vegetables. New Lodge Farm is also a rather picturesque camping and caravan site with a cafe bar.
Noborough Lodge, Kislingbury
A brand spanking new farm shop that opened last month just outside Weedon, Noborough Lodge is the brainchild of Kislingbury institution Elliott’s Butchers. You’ll find locally produced and homegrown foods, including Angus beef, fresh and smoked trout, honey and eggs produced on the farm, Heygates flour, and a selection of local cheeses, all conveniently located opposite Heart of the Shires shopping village, so bring your shopping bags.
Smiths, Chapel Brampton
A family-run business with a strong emphasis on sustainability and local produce. Asparagus, spuds and pumpkins are all grown right here on the farm, there’s a range of sourdough breads from local bakery, The Homemade Bread Company, as well as cakes and confectionary, preserves, cheese and delicatessen. Sauls of Spratton supply fresh meats, sausage rolls, pork pies, pasties and pâtés. It’s always tricky to find fresh fish here in landlocked Northants, so you’ll find a fish van here every Wednesday from 11-3, plus there’s a supply of freshly packaged fish available in store. There are also frozen foods, pet supplies, gardening supplies and, most importantly, beers, cider and spirits from local producers.
Ashley Farm Shop, Market Harborough
Ashley Farm Shop produce their own lamb and Aberdeen Angus beef, in addition to selling a range of responsibly farmed pork, chicken and game. You’ll also find a wide range of homemade products on site, including pies, pasties and sausage rolls, as well as scrumptious cakes. Locally produced, small batch and home made are the order of the day here, so everything comes with a provenance, not least the free range eggs from the farm’s own flock of hens. They also grow and sell their own herbs, fruit and vegetables and cut flowers.
