A constellation of local stars in the Great Taste Awards

Award-winning local food and drink, you say? Hot off the press, the latest Great Taste Award winners have just been crowned. Take a look at the line-up of Northants producers.

Get set for Northamptonshire’s gastronomic greats. The Great Taste Awards has dished out its stars to the UK’s best food and drink producers and the Rose of the Shires did us proud with a clutch of sparklers.

Run by The Guild of Fine Foods, a panel of judges (all wearing their roomiest pants) scoff and quaff their way through hundreds of thousands of entries. Each one is blind tasted by chefs, cooks, buyers, retailers, restaurateurs, food critics and writers who are looking a party of flavours, texture and aroma. Not fancy packaging. They then award the few one, two or three stars.

So what do the stars mean? Three stars = exquisite (Northants juust missed the rocket launcher to that galaxy) Extraordinarily tasty foods that you won’t want to leave the shop without buying. Two stars = outstanding. Above and beyond delicious. One star = Simply delicious. A food that delivers fantastic flavour.

Without further ado, let’s get stuck in…

TWO STARS 🌟🌟

Farrington's Mellow Yellow

Farrington Oils (Hargrave) – Mellow Yellow Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil. Described as “liquid gold” by the judges and we’d have to agree on that. I always have a bottle on the go in the Muddy kitchen.

Gallone’s (Kingsthorpe) – Luxury Madagascan Vanilla Ice Cream. A Northampton institution, we always had a tub of this in the freezer growing up, as well as my Dad’s favourite, of course, Rum & Raisin.

blue aurora wines

Blue Aurora English Blueberry Wine (Lutton) – Blue Aurora Ice Wine. One of our all-time favourite local wines made from fruit grown right here on the family farm in Northants

Trolls Bottom (Northampton) – Trolls Bottom Plum Mead. Very quirky, steadfastly trad, but oh so popular.

One star 🌟

Brooklyn Brewery Special Effects

Brooklyn Brewery (Northampton) – Brooklyn Special Effects

Farrington Oils (Hargrave) -Farrington’s Mellow Yellow Oak Smoked Rapeseed Oil and Farrington’s Mellow Yellow Honey & Mustard Dressing.

REAL Crisps (Corby) – REAL Hand Cooked Roast Ox

Vicky’s Kitchen (Northampton) – BBQ Mash Up

SophistiCake Creations (Northampton) – Vegan Sweet Potato, Pecan & Pistachio Cake

Explore Chocolate (Burton Latimer) – Virunga Milk and Ambanja 70% Origin Bon Bon

jute coffee

Jute Coffee (Thrapston) – jute Blend, Ethiopian and Indonesian blends.

Blue Aurora English Blueberry Wine (Lutton) – Blue Aurora Midnight

The Confectionist (Northampton) – Sea Salted Nibbles

Tesouka (Brackley) – Harissa-made from fresh ingredients, Chu Mi black bean sauce (restaurant style Chinese), Chu Mi Sichuan sauce (restaurant style) and Preserved lemons (Marrakesh limetta).
