£250k for a house? You betcha! If that mortgage is feeling like a millstone, take a peek at these properties in Northants and across the Muddy counties and start mentally moving in ASAP.


Finedon Cottage

Nabbing this three bed, grade II listed cottage in the gorgeous bustling village of Finedon is any first-time buyers dream. It’s in lovely nick and really spacious with pretty mullioned windows, wooden floors, a decent garden space, off street parking and even a cellar for stashing your vintage vino. Plus the magnificent Reverend Richard Coles will be your neighbour. Amen to that.


Geddington is a sought after village with bags of character, boasting one of only three remaining Eleanor Cross monuments in the country, and if it’s historic charm you’re after this sweet semi-detached cottage packs quite a punch. There is a stunning original marble fireplace as well as generously sized rooms and spectacular countryside views.

It is due to be sold at auction at the end of May and is clearly in need of quite a bit of TLC but will no doubt make someone a bargain fixer-upper, especially given the lovely central position in pretty Higham Ferrers.

If you’re looking for that elusive well proportioned family home in a town centre location, this immaculate 3-bed, double fronted property ticks all the boxes and is so beautifully kept that you can move straight in without any immediate work to be done. It’s also close to lovely parks and shopping streets, but you still get off street parking. Win.

A unique home with bags of space, this four bed property in the market town of Raunds is one of eight converted in the 1980s from the former Wesleyan school rooms. Adjacent to Stanwick Lakes, theres also loads of scope for water sports, bird spotting and walking in the fantastic countryside, whilst being just a few minutes from Rushden Lakes for when you fancy some retail therapy. Who, us?

Moreton Pinkney, all ironstone cottages and country lanes, who wouldn’t want to escape to this bucolic corner of South Northants? We reckon downsizers and first time buyers will be vying for this one.

Ramsgate might be the underdog next to artsy Margate and genteel Broadstairs, but if you want a pretty home by the coast there’s no denying this once-posh seaside town is is good value. Try this four-bedroom Victorian number on for size.

We’re going to the chapel and we’re gonna get… perhaps not married, but St Joseph’s Chapel in Langport, one of the smallest towns in England, is up for sale and it’s ripe for renovation. This typically Tuscan four bedroom house – we’re talking exposed stone, chestnut beams and terracotta tiles – is in a small village in the hills above Bagni di Lucca. The property comes with a massive garden so plenty of space to put in a pool. I’m thinking the bigger the better.


Outside space is top priority when it comes to a home abroad and this three bed villa, in Crete, is a winner with a tiled pool, large garden with fruit and olive trees, BBQ zone and multiple seating areas. It’s just 20 minutes from the beach too.
