IPads down kids – it’s book time!
Got kids aged 3 to 11 and want them to escape into a world of pure imagination? Look at these wonderful books by Children's author Anne Stairmand! The Mudlets will LOVE them.
There’s not enough whimsy in the world if you ask me! Frivolous fun and characters reminiscent of Roald Dahl’s Twits and the like; Anne Stairmand’s books are full of elaborately kooky creations. An author with 30 years in education; Anne always dreamed of writing, so now she does! From leading English departments and driving educational teams, Anne now works with schools, businesses and further education establishments in a writer’s capacity to raise standards in education and spread the word at festivals like Latitude and at workshops and libraries.
One of the Muddy team met Anne at The Althorp Literary Festival and she was charm personified. And after introducing us to her wonderful range of books, we thought we’d introduce them to you lot. So here are the creations from Anne’s head, all packaged and bound for Mudlets far and wide!
Desmond’s Dragon ages 3-5
A lovely, funny story about a little boy who loves dragons and finds a baby one by his bedroom window who has lost his mummy. Desmond takes Clive the dragon to school where lots of adventures take place.
Archie Dingletrotter’s Flying Caravan 4-6
Sweet story with very funny names, essentially with a little moral that it’s not what we have but who we are.
The Phantom Sock Snatcher 7-9 yrs
A feel of the BFG, it’s about a character called the Wumple Chumple who takes socks from our world back to his and makes them into sock trees. There is an adventure with a little boy called Joe and his mother to save some people in a far off country. Funny, mad, serious but always entertaining.
Petronella Pumpernickel-Pinkstocking Berck and Big Wart ages 7-9
Completely nuts, about a girl who rides a tractor to school and has a kissing list of boys to get through, if they don’t give her a kiss she takes their lunch money! A spell is cast on her and her teeth fall out and grass begins to grow, so she decides to become the Angel of Boudicca and fight dragons, crocodiles and serpents at school…And yes, there is a dragon in it too!!
The Idiot Family at Home 9-11+
A sharp, satirical and funny book with a touch of Private Eye humour in it. The main character is called Jimmelta Chew van der Bratt – a pun on Jimmy Choo (our kinda lady), who eats, doughnuts, has a waist of 70 inches, lives in a place called Bullion Castle and worships at the Church of Harvey Nichols. One day she goes into London and is arrested for stealing doughnuts.
