A top-notch country restaurant with a fab courtyard and smart interiors. It even boasts a 95% gluten-free menu without compromising on flavour or texture — no, really.
Tucked away in the little village of Apethorpe is The Willow and Brook, a veritably dreamy dining destination that serves up consistently yummy food. Chef Jim is a whizz at whipping up delicate menus that can suit anyone (No-gluten? No-dairy? No problem), from seared lamb rump with black garlic mash to madeira-infused tofu or Cajun butternut steak. The flavours are sophisticated but not snobby — there’s a kids’ menu, thank God, and fussy husbands won’t have to go without a bowl of chips — with ingredients sourced from local suppliers as far as possible.
Also noteworthy is the lovely atmosphere: attentive staff, roomy courtyard and bright, cosy interior. If you’re incapable of eating a plate of food without taking a picture (guilty), then your Instagram feed will appreciate the food presentation.
The place is pretty popular (no surprises here), so it’s advisable to book ahead. It’s also available to hire for private functions and weddings.
