High Five Northants – Open Air Theatres
As summer hits the country with full force (at God damn last) you’re probably on the hunt for things to on these beautiful, balmy evenings. And that’s why we’re here Mudsters, to let you know about Northamptonshire’s fabulous events and venues. Step forward the first in our High Five Northants series; Muddy intern Madeleine Morgan rounds up the top five, scenic screenings for the whole family to enjoy!
Cinema Under The Stars, Highgate House 23 July
Take a trip back to the 80s by visiting Highgate House to watch the all time classic, Dirty Dancing (a dicky bird tells me that this film nearly always sells out)! The gorgeous grounds of Highgate will be transformed into a huge open-air cinema allowing you to experience this old favourite in style. Suitable for the whole family, you can enjoy a bite to eat whilst watching the film on provided seating or your own picnic blanket. Doors open at 6.30pm with the film showing at 8.30pm.
Boughton House 5 -6 Aug
This August Boughton House opens up its gates for members of the public to come and enjoy superb classic films in its stunning surroundings. On the Friday, Labyrinth will be the first of two screenings, the second being the timeless favourite Pretty Woman shown the next evening. They encourage you to bring along a picnic and really get into the outdoor spirit (Pimms anyone?), doors open at 7.30pm with the film starting around 9.20pm (depending on the light).
Stanwick Lakes, July – Sep
Back after its huge popularity last year, the lakeside amphitheatre has been showing films this summer for all ages (brought to you by those great guys over at Lunaflix). If you fancy spending an evening by a beautiful lakeside screen then pop along to Stanwick Lakes with the next screening kicking off with Pulp Fiction on July 29 (most of you will know that Tarantino is not usually suitable for kids!). Then throughout the summer prepare for a string of brilliant films such as Top Gun and Grease beginning anytime from 6.00pm to 9.30pm, depending on sunset. Something for everyone!
East Carlton Park, Aug – Sep
Brought to us by Lunaflix again, East Carlton Park is showing two of the Mudlets faves, Jurassic Park and Hairspray. As with the other cinemas this is in such a beautiful setting and the large screens make for an extremely enjoyable viewing experience! However, they do recommend bringing a torch due to the lack of outdoor lighting, safety first peeps! Doors open between 6.45pm and 7.00pm so get yourself along for a brilliant evening under the stars (more Lunaflix info on image at the end of this blog post)!
Kilworth House, all year round
Now this is slightly off theme from the others in this section, as it’s an open-air theatre available all year round for those of you who fancy a slightly more sophisticated night out but still want the thrill of outdoor entertainment! With shows selling out quickly get in there quickly to get a taste of these wonderful productions such as Rock and Roll Paradise on the 26 of July. Such a lot of effort goes into these fabulous shows which have great reviews, it’d be a shame to miss the experience!
