Wouldn’t you though?
Gifts! Presents. What to buy the people we love?
In our fast paced, disposable world, it can be difficult to choose a present for someone; as these days, people often just buy themselves anything they need/desire. Which is why I always try and get friends and family something personalised, something they may not necessarily have thought to buy for themselves. Step forward Scrabble Art, and Linda, the designer behind the Scrabble Art range. Launched in 2009, Copperdot Designs was founded to inspire people to be more creative with their present buying, which is why Linda found me in her shop and studio in Nene Court, Wellingborough a few weeks ago!
I was looking for a gift for my Goddaughter (or rather, I was to become her Golden Girl, before you start laughing about the fact someone trusted me with that role)! I had some keywords in my speech that I knew I wanted to include in her gift, and Linda did some jiggery pokery and came up with a lovely design, that I knew no one else could give her.
Linda uses genuine SCRABBLE® tiles and gives them a very modern (and personalised) twist, and yes, there are lots of this type of Scrabble creativity around, but Copperdot Designs is the only officially approved SCRABBLE® Art company in the UK having gained approval and blessing from Mattel Inc.
Anyone can design their own creation and Scrabble Art will frame and deliver (they support local businesses where possible with all hand-made frames coming from a specialist frame and mount company here in Northamptonshire).
Alongside the mini scrabble there is wall art and coaster size Scrabble ‘pieces’. I had a Muddy coaster art made up, but haven’t committed it to a wall yet until my Dad, or someone more DIY proficient than me, comes to help me with spirit level in tow! But I think you’ll agree, it’s tres fabulous. Prices vary, depending on design, but are very reasonable, and you can get a gift for as little as a tenner (rising to £70/£80 for personalised, framed pieces).
I’ve been constantly surprised by the level of creativity and passion in Northamptonshire, and I really do think there’s a rich pool of creative talent out there. So what are you waiting for, it’s Christmas in less than a 100 days…go forth and create (good words include Prosecco, Chocolate and Netflix & Chill ; )
