KIDS: Camp Wilderness, Broughton Woods, Kettering, Mon 23 Jul – Mon 20 Aug

Camp Wilderness offers kids aged 6-15 the chance to unplug and have some old-fashioned summer fun. The camp brings its magical outdoor adventures to Kettering just in time for the school holidays by offering 3-day residential summer camps. Camp Wilderness connects children with the natural world, giving them the chance to camp in ancient woodlands, build and cook over open campfires, try new pursuits like archery and learn traditional bushcraft skills.  The camps run each week and cost £249, places can be booked online.

Daventry Museum are looking for local artists, crafters and collectors to exhibit their work and showcase collections to celebrate Daventry Arts Festival. It is free entry so you can browse around the work of the best of Northants. Opening times are Tues – Fri 9:30am – 1:30pm and the first Sat of the month 10am – 4pm.

FESTIVAL: Corby Sausage & Cider Festival, West Glebe Park, Corby Sat 30 Jun – Sun 1 Jul
A two day Sausage and Cider Festival to be held for the first time at West Glebe Park. In addition to the food market and street food section there will be a feast of entertainment, including live music, large selection of cider and a number of fairground rides for younger visitors.

FESTIVAL: Oundle International Festival, Wed 4 – Sat 14 Jul

For over 30 years, the Oundle International Festival has been providing Northants with entertaining and enriching music concerts, theatrical performances and community events which includes folk, jazz, classical and choral music, complimented by family theatre, an outdoor cinema screening, an encore screening of an opera and the annual Bach Walk (phew)… and let’s not forget about the Party at the Wharf.

FESTIVAL: Daxtonbury Festival, Podington, Fri 6 – Sun 8 Jul

A family friendly events which is a cross between Glastonbury and a village fete! Thirty live bands plus lots of other non-music related stuff to entertain the whole family. The aim is to raise money for cancer and medical charities and last year £10k was raised for local causes.  All the bands play for free and everyone involved is an unpaid volunteer. Dogs are welcome so all the family can have a fun weekend dancing away (with a cheeky pint too) all whilst raising money for a good cause.

This ones perfect for keeping the littles ones entertained. Doctor John Dolittle isn’t like a normal doctor, he has the ability to talk to animals. Any kids aged 7 upwards can go and see him in his brand new show, full of music, audience participation and all around fun. Tickets cost £10.

FESTIVAL: Northampton Town Festival, Sat 7 – Sun 8 Jul

Think giant funfairs, impressive hot air balloon displays, live music & entertainment, fireworks and a huge dollop of community spirit – and you have the recipe for the HUGE Northampton town festival. This festival is a throwback to the iconic Northampton Town Show with local traders, chill out tents, live music, funfair rides, kids zone, fireworks, stunts and shows, and, of course, the balloons. It’s FREE to attend and even the dog can come along, just make sure they’re well behaved.

THEATRE: Bugsy Malone, Royal & Derngate, Northampton, Sat 7 – Sun 15 Jul

Royal & Derngate’s Youth Theatre and Young Company delve into the jazz age to explore the thrilling, dark and dangerous 1920s American prohibition era. This fun-filled family musical is packed with well-known songs and will feature Northampton’s brightest up and coming young talent.

New York is in the shadow of the great depression, and mob boss Fat Sam is under threat from his new rival Dandy Dan and her gang of hoodlums. As custard pies fly and Dan’s destructive ‘splurge guns’ wreak havoc, Bugsy Malone, a penniless ex-boxer and all round nice guy, falls in love with Blousey Brown, an aspiring singer. Will Bugsy be able to resist seductive songstress Tallulah and stay out of trouble while helping to defend Fat Sam’s business?

Oh my word.  What a line up.  Now then, this festival sits on our border so it’s only a hop, skip and a jump for us Northants types. Relive your youth with this throwback festival showcasing the greats of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Dig out your forgotten flares and spandex and stir up the nostalgia within you in the beautiful surroundings of the Great Park at Rockingham Castle. This is must for music enthusiasts and the atmosphere caters for everyone witth themed bars and food stalls catering for all tastes.  So bring along your deck chairs and then either sit back and relax or dance the nights away.

KIDS: Forest School Holiday Clubs, Bell Plantation, Towcester, 24 – 26 Jul
The Bell Plantation have team up with Greatworth Hall Farm Education Centre to offer Forest School Sessions during the Summer holidays. The aim is to entertain, inspire and help with the boredom as the little ones explore the outdoors. The sessions will be run by a qualified Forest School Leader and supported by staff that also have a passion for teaching and the great outdoors. The kids get hands-on building a fire, build dens, go bug catching, make bug hotels and go nature treasure hunting for £20 per child.

Price includes a Kids Lunchbox Voucher to redeem at Bell Plantation Garden Centre Cafe. Sessions are suitable for children aged from 4 – 9 years. Limited spaces available. Payment required at time of booking to secure place.

FESTIVAL: Thurning Feast, Wed 25 Jul

This is a spectacular festival, which takes place on…whichever day the 25th of July falls on! This vibrant village feast brings the local community together in aid of raising funds for the upkeep of Thurning Village Hall and the Church of St James. Thurning receives help from residents of surrounding villages and in turn raises funds to support their villages and chosen charities. Alongside great live music, a funfair and children’s entertainment, Thurning Feast also offers a variety of multi-national foods and a fabulous selection of locally made cakes and teas for a quintessentially English experience. ART: Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up, Victoria & Albert Museum, London, now – Nov 4
The V&A Museum will explore more than 200 personal objects that belonged to Frida Kahlo, one of the most recognised and significant artists and women of the 20th century, fashioned her identity. The Mexican artist’s belongings were locked away by her husband when she died and are being exhibited outside Mexico for the first time. From her ‘Ebony’ eyebrow pencil and beautifully embroidered clothes to a painted prosthetic leg, this exhibition is fascinating to say the least.

Henley Royal Regatta, Wed 4 – Sun 8 Jul

Henley Royal Regatta is undoubtedly the best-known regatta in the world. It’s a highlight of both the summer sporting calendar and the social season. Get dolled up, all nice and fancy and enjoy the racing over a 5-day period, you may even spot some Olympic rowers. In addition to watching the racing, you can enjoy the array of restaurants, bars and shops available, as well as the charming views of Henley and the River Thames.
