It's a foodie frenzy in Northants, with new restaurants and bars opening left right and centre, plus a much-loved bookshop and cafe in need of new ownership.
Brand new, revamped hotel to open next month
The Falcon Hotel in Castle Ashby will open to the public next month and guests can rest their heads in one of 22 gorgeously renovated bedrooms. The work has taken three years with a radical transformation having been undertaken by interior designer Jackie Blakey, a personal friend of Lord and Lady Northampton, doncha know. The Falcon Hotel will also be home to Eyas (meaning young falcon), a brand new restaurant with outdoor seating on the terrace as well as a 30-person bolthole cellar bar serving up cocktails and afternoon tea. Still in the development stages, a wellness centre is expected to open in spring 2021. Visitors will be able to wander the extensive gardens and try meditation classes and other wellness activities including wild swimming in the summer months.
Castle Theatre opens doors to brand new pizzeria
Great idea incoming. Valentine’s Day sees the opening night of a new Italian restaurant at Wellingborough’s Castle Theatre. An extensive range of stone baked artisan pizzas will be on the menu for a pre-theatre munchies.
Calling all bookworms
Dream job alert! If, like me, you think the idea of running a bookshop and cafe in a historic setting sounds like the premise of a film starring Audrey Tatou, then step this way please. The Booksmith, book shop, cafe and art gallery in Weedon Bec, situated within the incredible Royal Ordnance Depot, and purveyor of all your favourite fiction, has sadly closed it’s doors due to owner relocation and they are looking for a new owner. Some of our fave businesses are situated here in the Royal Ordnance Depot including Pose Fitness, The Weedon Project and Vintique, and this gorgeous development is really starting to gather pace. Why not give it a whirl and fulfil those romantic dreams?
Lago Lounge to open at Rushden Lakes
Chilled all-day brunch cafe-bar chain, Lounges, is set to open a new branch called Lago Lounge at Rushden Lakes leisure terrace next week (19 Feb). The restaurant will have books and board games on hand to entertain kids, children’s menus, vegan and gluten free options, plus canine treats, so you can take your pooch along too.
Goodbye…. and hello!
One of Northampton’s most popular night clubs Ballon Bar has shut its doors for the final time (booo). But on the plus side, work is now underway on a brand new, £10 million upmarket hotel with bar and restaurant with a rooftop sky bar, expected to be completed by the end of 2021. See you on the top floor for an Aperol spritzer on launch night.
