Super flashy newsflash!
Want to be in the know? Of course you do. And have I got news for you!
Bongggggg, bonggggg. And here is the news…
The sleeping lion has well and truly woken up and let me tell you it is looking fierce. The Red Lion pub in Yardley Hastings may have been closed since March (booo Lockdown) but it’s certainly been building up its energy. Head Chef Emma Fowkes is joined by new owners Dave and Nathan, who’ll be running the show from here on in and are driven by a passion for gourmet food and top-notch service. Word on the street is they’re opening on Saturday 5 December. Stay tuned…
If you like to do your festive shopping in person then, like me, you’ll be thrilled to hear that Delapré Abbey’s Christmas Fair is ON! The house will be festively dressed for Christmas and there will be a treasure trove of unique and handmade gifts so you can avoid department store shopping crowds altogether and enjoy browsing with a mulled wine or grab some street food from one of the stalls to keep you fuelled while you support local makers and producers. It’s happening on 5/6 and 12/13 Dec and advance booking is essential.
Panto is coming to Milton Keynes this season. Oh no it isn’t! Oh yes it is etc etc. Yes peeps, actual real life performance is happening at MK Theatre in the form of Sleeping Beauty. Stars of the show include the fabulously wicked Claire Sweeney, Lee Mead and Suzanne Shaw and you can grab your tickets from this week. Go go go.
Fancy a trip to Lapland this Christmas? Look no further. Silverstone Circuit is transforming in to a magical winter wonderland with light and laser displays from 10 December to 3 Jan and if you hurry you just might bag yourself tickets to drive your own car around the world famous racetrack and follow it up with a drive-in movie afterwards. Vroooom!
Is there anything better than super sexy coffee? Well, yes, since you ask. Super sexy coffee with social conscience as a matter of fact. Saints Coffee is a brand new coffee brand and cafe opening on St. Giles Street in Northampton in the new year. Until then though, they’re selling online in order help meet their social goals, which include student outreach projects and supporting vulnerable members of our community. 25% of all profits are being poured in to these and other exciting enterprises thanks to saintly owners Nic and Ben.
If you’re out in the sticks like me, you’ll rejoice every time your hear of a new cafe opening nearby where you can get a real coffee fix or a decent cake. Blakesley Tea Room opened their doors last week for takeaway drinks, cakes, sarnies, jacket spuds and loads more. A great little spot for a quick refuel if you’re on a bike ride. We’re counting the days until we can sit down at a table for a proper chinwag.
Muddy faves Burnt Lemon Chefs have teamed up with The Four Pears in Little Houghton with a grand opening that was due to take place on Sunday 15 November. Cue: Lockdown II getting right on everyone’s nerves and throwing a complete spanner in the works. It hasn’t stopped the Burnt Lemon guys though and, true to form, they’ve pivoted in the most graceful fashion to bring gourmet takeaway delights using local producers and suppliers. The menu varies depending on the day and includes wood fired pizza, fish and chips, Japanese BBQ burgers and Sunday roasts.
Have a butcher’s
The week before Lockdown II saw the most excitement South Northants has possibly seen since Jeremy Clarkson came to drive around in a car. Yep, you guessed it: none other than Phil Spencer of Location Location Location was spotted drinking in the Butcher’s Arms in Greens Norton whilst shooting the new series. Filming also took place in nearby Litchborough and the episode is due to air in March 2021. We’re famous!
