Child-friendly activities with a side-order of adult retail therapy – now you’re talking! The Nene Wetlands Visitor Centre at Rushden Lakes, is hosting six weeks of wildlife-themed activities this summer. The Mudlets will be introduced to all manner of creatures and natural wonders, including butterflies, flowers, birds, amphibians, mammals and insects. Activities range from meeting Archie the owl to decorating ceramic frog houses to take home. Once they’ve had their fill, you can mooch around the shops and refuel at one of the lakeside restaurants.

FAMILY FUN: Survive the Summer! Xscape Milton Keynes, throughout August

I’ve been spending quite a bit of time at Xscape over the last few months because there always seems to be something happening at this North Bucks activity Mecca. This week I’ll be pushing small children out of the way for a turn on the giant inflatable Hungry Hippos 18-19 Aug. Glen the Gorilla will also be making an appearance on Weds for a fun family show.

If one circuit isn’t enough, the Lakeside Circuit will in full swing giving drivers 1.06 kilometres of fast and technical track. Both areas will include spectator areas close to the action. The V&A Museum will explore more than 200 personal objects that belonged to Frida Kahlo, one of the most recognised and significant artists and women of the 20th century, fashioned her identity. The Mexican artist’s belongings were locked away by her husband when she died and are being exhibited outside Mexico for the first time. From her ‘Ebony’ eyebrow pencil and beautifully embroidered clothes to a painted prosthetic leg, this exhibition is fascinating to say the least.
