FESTIVAL: Northampton Town Festival, Sat 7 – Sun 8 Jul

Think giant funfairs, impressive hot air balloon displays, live music & entertainment, fireworks and a huge dollop of community spirit – and you have the recipe for the HUGE Northampton town festival. This festival is a throwback to the iconic Northampton Town Show with local traders, chill out tents, live music, funfair rides, kids zone, fireworks, stunts and shows, and, of course, the balloons. It’s FREE to attend and even the dog can come along, just make sure they’re well behaved.

MUSIC: Bands in the Park, Abington Park, now – Sun 16 Sep

Enjoy live music every Sunday afternoon from 2pm – 5pm at the Abington Park bandstand and be surrounded by the relaxing and beautiful environment of the park.

COMEDY: Screaming Blue Murder, Royal & Derngate, Northampton, now – Fri 16 Nov

Don’t miss our Friday night comedy club in the Underground Studio with compere Dan Evans. This season features many of comedy’s rising stars. Visit the website to book and to see what comedy stars are on this week.

ART: Arts, Crafts & Collectables, Daventry Museum, now – Fri 24 Aug

Daventry Museum are looking for local artists, crafters and collectors to exhibit their work and showcase collections to celebrate Daventry Arts Festival. It is free entry so you can browse around the work of the best of Northants. Opening times are Tues – Fri 9:30am – 1:30pm and the first Sat of the month 10am – 4pm.

FESTIVAL: Oundle International Festival, Wed 4 – Sat 14 Jul

For over 30 years, the Oundle International Festival has been providing Northants with entertaining and enriching music concerts, theatrical performances and community events which includes folk, jazz, classical and choral music, complimented by family theatre, an outdoor cinema screening, an encore screening of an opera and the annual Bach Walk (phew)… and let’s not forget about the Party at the Wharf.

FESTIVAL: Daxtonbury Festival, Podington, Fri 6 – Sun 8 Jul

A family friendly events which is a cross between Glastonbury and a village fete! Thirty live bands plus lots of other non-music related stuff to entertain the whole family. The aim is to raise money for cancer and medical charities and last year £10k was raised for local causes.  All the bands play for free and everyone involved is an unpaid volunteer. Dogs are welcome so all the family can have a fun weekend dancing away (with a cheeky pint too) all whilst raising money for a good cause.

THEATRE, KIDS: Doctor Dolittle, Castle Theatre, Wellingborough, Sat 7 Jul

This ones perfect for keeping the littles ones entertained. Doctor John Dolittle isn’t like a normal doctor, he has the ability to talk to animals. Any kids aged 7 upwards can go and see him in his brand new show, full of music, audience participation and all around fun. Tickets cost £10.

THEATRE: Bugsy Malone, Royal & Derngate, Northampton, Sat 7 – Sun 15 Jul

Royal & Derngate’s Youth Theatre and Young Company delve into the jazz age to explore the thrilling, dark and dangerous 1920s American prohibition era. This fun-filled family musical is packed with well-known songs and will feature Northampton’s brightest up and coming young talent.

New York is in the shadow of the great depression, and mob boss Fat Sam is under threat from his new rival Dandy Dan and her gang of hoodlums. As custard pies fly and Dan’s destructive ‘splurge guns’ wreak havoc, Bugsy Malone, a penniless ex-boxer and all round nice guy, falls in love with Blousey Brown, an aspiring singer. Will Bugsy be able to resist seductive songstress Tallulah and stay out of trouble while helping to defend Fat Sam’s business?

ART: Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up, Victoria & Albert Museum, London, now – Nov 4
The V&A Museum will explore more than 200 personal objects that belonged to Frida Kahlo, one of the most recognised and significant artists and women of the 20th century, fashioned her identity. The Mexican artist’s belongings were locked away by her husband when she died and are being exhibited outside Mexico for the first time. From her ‘Ebony’ eyebrow pencil and beautifully embroidered clothes to a painted prosthetic leg, this exhibition is fascinating to say the least.
Henley Royal Regatta, Wed 4 – Sun 8 Jul

Henley Royal Regatta is undoubtedly the best-known regatta in the world. It’s a highlight of both the summer sporting calendar and the social season. Get dolled up, all nice and fancy and enjoy the racing over a 5-day period, you may even spot some Olympic rowers. In addition to watching the racing, you can enjoy the array of restaurants, bars and shops available, as well as the charming views of Henley and the River Thames.
