What’s on this week in Northants

Hats and gloves at the ready, chilly days and dark nights are the perfect recipe for the run up to festive fun and there's plenty to get up to in the shire this week from art and comedy to Christmas markets.

COMEDY: Sarah Millican: Bobby Dazzler, Royal & Derngate, Northampton, 18 & 21 Nov

Brace and girdle for hilarious reflections on womanhood. Guaranteed giggles from Sarah, who is no holds barred when it comes to the embarrassing and often downright cringey elements of being female and slightly daft. We can all relate.

FESTIVE FUN: Winter Light Trail, Delapré Abbey, Northampton, 19 Nov-2 Jan

Ring in the festive season with a magical light installation throughout Delapré’s magical woodland, walled garden and abbey grounds with tunnels of light, soundscapes and larger than life illuminations.

SHOPPING: Christmas Craft Weekend, Forge Coffee, Culworth and Evenley, 19-21 Nov

Get into the festive spirit and support your locals makers at Forge’s weekend showcase of local artists and artisans alongside their always tasty treats and mulled cider for added Christmas spirit.

OUTDOORS: Tree Planting, Wicksteed Park, Kettering, 20 Nov

Go green with Kettering Eco Group and The Woodland Trust‘s tree planting event at Wicksteed Park‘s hay meadow with the aim of restoring an area of historic woodland. The plantation will be photographed and added to the Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) map to celebrate Her Maj’s 2022 Platinum Jubilee and follows hot on the heels of the UN Climate Change Conference COP26. You must register in advance for this event as spaces are limited.

COMEDY: Henning Wehn: It’ll All Come Out in the Wash, Royal & Derngate, Northampton, 20 Nov

The world’s funniest German? We’ll let you decide as the Have I Got news For You and Would I Lie to You regular takes to the stage on for his latest stand-up show.

SHOPPING: Artisan Christmas Market, Elliott’s Rectory Farm, Moulton, 20 & 21 Nov

Stock up on gifts, jewellery and local produce at this festive market. Brew Caravan will be on site to serve barista coffees and there’ll be festive treats and tipples, as well as a bar and hot food to keep you energised for all that Christmas shopping.

ART: Open Exhibition, The Heseltine Gallery, Middleton Cheney, 21 Nov-16 Dec

The annual Heseltine Open kicks off this week, showcasing work by local artists that’s available to buy. Christmas shopping, anyone?

SHOPPING: A Curious Christmas, Oh Curio, Harringworth, 21 Nov, 1am-4pm

This festive shopping day on Sunday 21st November promises to be an indulgent one, with 10 businesses descending on the barn with their beautiful brands, from food, gifts and treats to ceramics, homewares, and hand-crafted treasures. Someone keep me away from this and lock up my bank cards, ta.

ART: Laura Knight, A Panoramic View, MK Gallery, until 20 Feb

Just across the Bucks border (dodgy territory, I know) MK Gallery‘s big retrospective continues, charting 20th century artist Laura Knight’s remarkable career
