Here’s our essential guide to everything you need to know. It’s all going off in Northants this week. At least, we hope they’re on – best to check before heading out in the current situation.

THEATRE: The Strange Tale of Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel, Royal and Derngate, Northampton, Mon 16 Mar

Chuck us the lifebelt, Charlie! Here’s the tall tale of two men whose names live on on the comedy canon and their odd and disjointed friendship. What’s real, what’s not? We’re not sure, but it’s bound to be funny and we could all do with a laugh this week.

WELLBEING: Family Wellness Workshop, Forge Coffee, Evenley, Tues 17 Mar

Ever wondered what all the fuss is around essential oils? I mean, they smell pretty good, right? Well, find out more about how they can help with the whole family’s wellbeing in this two hour workshop, using Doterra Essential Oils.

BALLET: Giselle, Lighthouse Theatre, Kettering, Wed 18 Mar

 The tragic and dramatic tale of love and betrayal, revenge and compassion comes to Kettering with a full corps de ballet of 24 dancers and fantastic costumes. You’re in for a treat.

Invisible String Theatre presents Sonder, Northampton, Wed 18 Mar

A new work by Invisible String Theatre Company as part of the University of Northampton Drama Programme’s annual Adaptation Festival. The residents of Greystead Flats receive some news that jolts out of their monotonous lives.

FOOD AND DRINK: Jazz and Tapas evening, Magazine Heaven, Rushden Lakes, Thur 19 Mar

Muddy fave Magazine Heaven at Rushden Lakes hold regular events in their gorgeous store and artisan cafe. Coming up next is an evening of Jazz and Tapas with live music from Cool Jazz Collective and a selection of moreish food from the tapas menu to scoff and share.

COMEDY: Jimmy Carr, Royal and Derngate, Fri 20 Mar

Warning: political correctness at a comedy show is like health and safety at a rodeo. Jimmy Carr is back at the Derngate with his usual irreverence.

EVENT: Brewery Tour, Towcester Mill Brewery, Fri 20 Mar

Fancy the opportunity to see behind the scenes of Towcester’s heritage brew plant? Learn the history of this Grade II listed Mill, and find out about the different malt and hops used in brewing, followed up with a beer and tapas board. Bottoms up.

KIDS: Sarah and Duck’s Big Top Birthday, Royal and Derngate, Sat 21 Mar

FOOD AND DRINK: The Botanical Drinks Festival, Delapre Abbey, Sat 21 Mar

Can’t tell your juniper from your star anise, or your dragon eye from your baobab? This evening of botanical drinks tastings and masterclasses in the beautiful surroundings of Delapre Abbey will set you right, and possibly get you a little bit tipsy. Hic.

EVENT: Daffodil Festival, Grendon, Sat 21 Mar

This annual village event marks the spring equinox with a glorious celebration of daffs, along with a dog show, craft and food stalls including locally produced pressed rapeseed oil and fruity gins, not to mention tons of varieties of daffodils to admire and bring home to spruce up your flower beds.

EVENT: Tea with Oscar Wilde, The Vintage Retreat, Northampton, Sat 21 Mar

Join the witty playwright himself (well, actor Jonathan Goodwin) in this comic show packed with music and audience participation, as well as afternoon tea served on vintage china.

WELLBEING: Pampering Day, Soo Yoga, Northampton, Sat 21 Mar

Escape from the treadmill and float into the dreamy bubble of Soo Yoga in Northampton. They’ve got a Mothers’ Day special on Sat 21 Mar, offering an hour of pampering for just £25 including a 25 minute deep cleansing facial, a 30 minute hydrotherm massage and a glass of Prosecco and cake. Upgrade to the £35 option to add a one class pass that can be used within one month towards any fitness, reformer pilates (above) or yoga class at the studio. Plus they have a sauna available to use whenever you’re at the studio as well as a crèche.

In need of some inspo for spoiling the best woman in your life? This year we’re banking on Milton Keynes’ centre:mk which has a stellar line up of offers and treats across the shopping centre. Afternoon tea is a dead cert for Mother’s Day, with Patisserie Valerie offering a traditional selection of finger sandwiches, scones and pastries (£20 for two); Champneys’ Day Spa in Boots has a mother and daughter nail offer; John Lewis Beauty Retreat has ESPA Inner Beauty Facial Reveal (50 mins of relaxation is the greatest gift of all, right?!), plus there’s the new Benito Brow Bar for extra pampering. Local favourites Creation Theatre are heading to the Big Smoke! In this moving (literally) production, small audiences will be led through the vast London Library as Time Machine, which explores themes of neuroscience, big data, genomics and global connectedness, unfolds. Knowing Creation, it’s bound to be brilliant.
