Nevermind where to go on holiday or how to pack your ultimate holiday suitcase - here's how to create the best holiday vibes with family and friends this summer.

After a long career in the travel industry followed by a move into life coaching, Clare Percival from Now It’s all About Me has some pretty brilliant tips on how to make the most of your holiday.

1. Communicate your holiday intentions

If you want to sit on a sun lounger for a week, read limitless amounts of books, swim, sip cocktails and eat spanakpita – that’s great. But make sure it’s this is what your family, or the friends your holidaying with, also want to do. Before you go talk about what you want from the holiday so you’re all on the same page when you get there. It won’t be much fun if your partner wants to do yoga on the beach every day, but you have other ideas.

2. Do you like the people you’re holidaying with

Before you go on holiday, ask yourself these qurstions:

  1. Do I like the people/person that I am going on holiday with?

  2. Am I looking forward to a break?

  3. Am I happy to be flexible with delays, jams, weather variations and insects?

If the answer is YES to all three questions, then you’re onto a winner. If not, maybe you need to reconsider who you are spending holiday with.

3. Switch off all media and shut down

If this is your one opportunity to spend time together –  that doesn’t mean sending your other half a text from the beach to the bar to order a drink (although sounds like a great idea). It’s time to reconnect, by disconnecting, recharge you not your devices.

Who cares where another friend is on holiday and if they look like they are having more fun than you? If you care that much, go on holiday with them next time! Now is the perfect time to reconnect with your loved ones, and remember why you are together or sharing time away.

4.  Welcome and embrace the holiday brain
 

If the only decision you must make each day when you’re on holiday is where to eat dinner, CONGRATULATIONS you have officially switched off. If you forget your left from your right, you have achieved ‘holiday brain’. This phenomenon sweeps nations at holiday time all over the world but has been recently on the decline. Give your body a chance to relax but also your mind.

5.   Make a great playlist

Music soothes and calms – so rather than being subjected to banging house music from the bar or bad American 80 rock anthems, bring your own playlist. Listen to music you love while your lazing by the pool or on the beach. And, of course, getting showered and ready to go out while listening to some soulful tunes, in a relaxed way, is pure heaven.
