Award winning luxury

Grafton Spa at Potterspury - Muddy Award Winners for best Northants Spa in both 2016 and 2017- these guys are good.

The-Spa-Browns-Hotel-mr-1-1Remember Muddy’s take on beach body ready, and my four-point-plan of ‘head, brows, tan and toes (sang to the theme of head, shoulders, knees and toes, obvs)? Well here’s another one; as I had a second cheeky trip away, I thought I’d combine it with some reviews and do another pre-holiday prep blogarooni.

So… first up was Muddy Award 2016 Winner, Grafton Spa in pretty Potterspury.

They’re in the fabulous little shopping emporium of Wakefield Court, where you’ll also find ARTea and another Muddy Award winner Vitreus Art (more lovely people). It’s a cute salon when you walk in. Definitely not one of those overly, feng shui’d salons, all chrome and steel minimalism. It has a nice, buzzy feel; lots of products and things going on. It’s a relatively small building, but when you walk through the back, the owner has knocked through to the other unit, and created a beautiful, almost Tardis like sized space.

First up were the Muddy toes, and I have to tell you they were in a shocking state. It hurts me to be public about this atrocity to beauty, but it’s true, they needed some heavy handed care, as opposed to tender, loving care *embarrassed face.

Anyhoo, Lucy (who was an absolute dream, and who I’ll definitely go back to see) got to work with some industrial level tool and before long I was looking smooth, moisturised and gel polished with a very cool grey (chanelling my more indie vibe). Ta da! At around £40, it’s at the upper end for a pedi with gel polish, but she spent at least an hour on the old tootsies, and they were in a very happy shape afterwards.0B187480-CB45-4B6E-9E14-6E8358693C7B

Next up was eyebrows and tan, and I have to say, both were superb, if not lending me to being at my most attractive *snort (the lengths I go to for this blog ; )

IMG_7944I’ll have more on the tan in a future High Five Northants – Spray Tans, but it was very thorough, and had superb results (this tan gave me the brownest legs EVER, and it stayed for two weeks – it was by Kissed By Mii, which I’d never heard off, but I’d definitely recommend)!!! At £25, it’s a smidgen more expensive than what’s on offer at your regular spray salon (usually around £15 to £20), but on this occasion, you get what you pay for!

IMG_8015I find it difficult to take eyebrow shots but here you go. I don’t have very bushy eyebrows but for £25 biffer, I got a really good shape that actually took me through the whole summer (speaking of which, I should really go back)!

I really liked the intimate vibe at Grafton Spa (Whittlebury isn’t far away, but they’re not really comparable in terms of size and offering, so it really depends what you want). Wakefield Court is a great destination where you can make a day of it with the spa and tea shop across the way (which sells alcohol), and Georgina, the lovely owner of Grafton will even organise lunch brought to you if you like. It’s a great venue for girlie events (evening Prosecco and pizza anyone?), but blokes are allowed in to if you fancy a bit of partner pampering (loads more deets on website and I’m planning some pre Xmas treatments, so watch this space)!.IMG_7951

Next up on the holiday prep was the barnet (this 4-point-plan, really is the Queen of pre holiday requirements; of course, there are times when I get none of this, but still manage to have a luvverly time ; )IMG_8171Baileys Hair is a v quirky mobile hair salon that offers the same comforts you would expect from your local high street salon, but in an A Team style van, pretty nifty eh!IMG_8175Baileys Hair was founded last year by the very smiley Faye Bailey, a budding entrepreneur with over 25 years experience. Faye had already built up a good reputation in and around Northampton and after working for a number of salons, as well as having running her own salon in Spain, she found a niche in the market. Speaking with some of her clients, she saw that one of the biggest problems they faced, was finishing work and rushing across town to get to the salon (yup we all know that). Her inspiration then come nearly three years ago at a VW convention where she was looking around VW Campervans and wondered if it was possible to convert a similar vehicle into a mobile salon, and voila, here she is today.

IMG_8177The van has residency in The Old Five Bells in Kingsthorpe Monday, Friday and Saturday, Northampton University Tuesday  & Thursday and Barclaycard HQ Brackmills on Wednesday. For the Muddy bonce however, she kindly hauled it over to Wellingborough and squeezed it in front of the house (if the hair thing doesn’t work out, this girl’s got driving skills). She also does her own range of hair products which don’t strip the hair of colour, a veritable modern day Renaissance Woman is Faye.

IMG_8176I wanted a bit of a summer jushe up, and we decided to do an ombre that was still quite brunette at the roots. The result was a rich chestnut blending into a warm coppery colour, mid length with a little blonder at the ends (this worked well on the hollybobs, with it becoming quite light, for me…).

IMG_8181We like quirky, here at Muddy, and Faye’s van ticks all of those boxes. Plus she really is a woman on a mission to sort out the hair of Northants at reasonable prices; women’s blow dry £16 and full head colour £35.00 plus. If you want the full glitzy glamour of a large, busy salon, then Bailey’s Hair might not be for you. But if you want something a little bit different from a gal who knows what’s she’s doin’, then pull up to the bumper baby!
