Northants’ Best Kept Secret – Homefield Grange
A 5* luxury escape that gives you a serious health kick while showing you how to live life well (for longer)!
Been to Homefield Grange yet? OMG, you’re going to love it – a hidden gem in the midst of the Northamptonshire countryside. It’s like a mini Soho Farmhouse, but based in Rushton, and there’s certainly nothing like it in Northants, if the UK. It’s a proper retreat/spa created by wellness professional Suzanne Peck (Qualified Naturopath, Colonic Hydrotherapist, Nutritionist, Live Blood Analyst plus loads more I can’t even pronounce). Suzanne has hired full time health and wellness professionals who she personally vets, including nutritionists, wellness coaches, fitness trainers, and health chefs. While I was there, the whole team of professionals, housekeepers and front of house staff really do treat everyone as valued guests. The subterranean Spa is new from January and it’s stunning, I really didn’t want to leave, Here’s why you should put it on your ‘must try’ list.
It’s a full on health retreat
This isn’t your boozy, hen do spa; this is a true health getaway. In fact, you won’t see any booze and all the food is prepared in the kitchen by health chefs and nutritionists; step away from the feeling of being bloated, overwhelmed, stressed and out of control of your body and your health. It’s not just about the detox, at the wellness clinic they offer blood analysis and food intolerance testing (among others) where you can learn about your body and be inspired for a long-term health kick. I did the blood analysis and it picked up a few things that I already had a sneaking suspicion of; but with the corroboration it really fixes your mind to do something (mine had to do with less wine and managing stress)!
It’s a beauty – a perfect insta location inside and out. The wellness spa is made from natural stone, wood, and slate and the thermal suite will relax, restore and recharge. Make the most of hydrotherapy pool, herbal sauna, Himalayan salt steam, deep relaxed water massage beds, infra-red therapy bench and that’s just a few of their offerings. The whole place will have you leaving feeling rested, balanced and cared for.
The list of treatments is epic – try the body wraps which aim to tone, tighten, detox and renew, as well as Rasul Ritual treatments which release toxins and soothes aches and pains. Me and plus one had one of these together with a full body massage and I can’t recommend it enough. We were left to our own devices for the Rasul Ritual and had our own double shower/steam room with changing mood lighting. If you want some proper ‘me’ time, the bathing rituals are personalised to your needs and is the perfect treatment to relax overstimulated minds and bodies. There’s a whole range for you to try.
The health kitchen
All food, juices and drinks at Homefield are chosen to help you hit the reset button for a healthier, happier and more vibrant you. There’s no booze, chocolate or 3-course indulgent meals here, more like supplements and cleansing drinks (after being given the soup for dinner, I asked what was for main course – doh)! This retreat is a ‘no temptation’ opportunity to give your body a holiday from stimulants, alcohol, wheat, dairy, meat and sugar. The produce is often local and is delivered fresh daily; so fresh that Homefield is actively expanding its ‘home grown’ veggies selection, which the chefs use for their fabulous creations. It’s clear they’re passionate about motivating their guests to live life well.
A short trip can turn into a perfect long term investment with the help of the knowledgable chefs. Repeat guests told me they always take loads of tips home and get the most out of it all by taking part in the food demos. With guilt free desserts on the menu, healthy soup making and knife skills, it’s clear these demos can be transferred to every day life.
Classes, exercise, yoga and meditation
The sessions are designed by Homefield’s instructors and are suitable for all fitness levels and experience. You can burn calories, relax your mind, tone and shape, improve flexibility and lower stress levels. Whether it’s a personal training session or in a group, they’ll give you the energy boost you need. Choose from nordic walking, yoga, guided meditation, cardio and a personalised exercise programme (we’d done Nordic Walking and a class by 9am) plus seminars and talks to keep you on track.
The luxury is not just in the spa, the whole house is pretty gorgeous including the bedrooms. They’re very tastefully decorated rather than cutting edge, but will appeal to most people. You can tick off secure, cosy, clean, welcoming and all the necessities are provided – you can see why lots of people revisit. The team of housekeepers service the rooms daily and treat you like a proper valued guest. There’s free WiFi, a TV and herbal tea making facilities so you can rewind after a day of detoxing. There’s even a laundry facilities to so you don’t have to carry home your sweaty gym gear.
Homefield Grange is top-notch, luxy luxness at its best. Spa days start from £99 and residential health retreats are from £350 but call up and talk about your individual needs and see what’s available. If you do visit, you’ll be in good company – Carol Vorderman, Amanda Holden, and Mel C have all been and given glowing testimonials on the homepage. Go hang out with them!
